As i'm very familiar with NYC, let's back-up a minute...

What is it that you're looking for in a hotel for this trip, as i'm seeing higher rated properties for the same amount of money (or less)... so why the offers above?

What is your maximum budget (per nite before taxes/fees) for this trip?

Hello Thereuare

I am more than open to advice.

Our budget are in 150-190 USD per nite area with a safe neighborhood  convenient access to nice attractions in Manhattan. Three years ago thanks to u, we ended in Hotel Toshi close to the Flat Iron which was a very  good pick apart maybe from the room size.

I think it may be a good idea to keep south on times square which is a quieter neighborhood, upper east side may be a bit further from action. I enjoyed a lot Chelsea and Washington square area. Kids are 10 and 13. You know everything..

My best guess for this 4.5* MTE property would be The Westin New York Grand Central, which as the name implies, is near Grand Central station where you can catch the subway (and if the 7 train there is an entrance even closer on the south side of 42nd St, just beyond Third Ave)

Does this work for your needs this trip?

For a bit more ($190/nite plus a $25 resort fee (to maintain the beach and palm trees in NYC ) i'm seeing what looks like the Crowne Plaza which would be right in the heart of Times Square (which coudl be a positive or a negative depending upon your perspective)

For about the same as the MTE hotel above ($165/nite) i'm also seeing what looks to be the Holiday Inn NYC - Lower East Side, which is slightly less convenient than Times Square (but certainly do-able), but this property gets excellent reviews and is in a very interesting neighborhood that has undergone a renaissance in the last 5-10 years and now has lots of restaurants, bars, and boutiques.

Any of the above of interest?

 Hi Again

The Holiday Inn could be a good option as we do not mind walking a bit as Manhattan is always an entertainment in itself.  I see a 4 star property in LES- WV at 164 USD with FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Fitness center, Business center, Internet access

Is this the one ? I will keep trying and hopefully get the Crowne Plaza for a cheaper rate??

Yes, that is the one i believe to be the Holiday Inn NYC - Lower East Side.

3 star Empire State Bdg 178 USD

FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower

I guess it is the Hilton Garden Inn but it could also be the Marquis

Any idea ?

I see this offer and agree that a new amenity set for the Hilton Garden Inn New York 35th Street would be the best guess here.

Hello again

I think the hilton garden inn is a bit expsenvie for a 3 star

I now find a 4 star empire state for 171 USD

FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access

which I guess is the Affinia Shelburne

Do you think it would be a better pick ?

This listing has not yet been ID'd/reported, but there is a 4.5/5 tripadvisor rating showing on the detail page, so quality is certainly not a concern in this case. The Shelburne or Affinia Dumont with a new amenity set would be possibilities, but it may be something else not yet reported.

Are you looking for something in particular in terms of hotel?

Hi Aaron

the hotel is gone...at this price

but I see 4 star empire State 192 USD , 4.5 on TA

FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access

and HW says, for what is worth,  The last person got the Executive Hotel Le Soleil New York.

as for expectation, we would like a big room ( kids grow up 10/13) in this area or south of it (but not so far as the finnacial district) at 160-170 USD

I'm not certain, but the Affinia Shelburne or the Affinia Dumont would be my guess for this 4* ESB HOTWIRE hotel.

a little update

it seems our favourite choice : the  Hilton Garden Inn New York 35th Street offer does not want to come down from 178 USD

Would you advise a better pick for a family below say 42nd street  for similar or lower price?

Posted

There is also the possibility that rates broadly can go higher. To try and focus the search, are you looking for something in particular in terms of hotel? In terms of somewhat cheaper options, I'm seeing the Holiday Inn Midtown for $142,  the potential Belvedere for $157 and there are not many other options on HOTWIRE below the $178 of the potential Hilton Garden. Are there any PRICELINE EXPRESS listings where "bed choice" is listed as an option and one of the choices would be suitable (more than 1 bed)?

Hi

our expectations are pretty straightforward. Safe and relatively quiet neighborhood , ideally walking distance to attractions (high line, freedom tower, Gwch village, Bkn bridge are on our list) /shopping areas (nothing too classy) , 2 queen beds min and as possible a large room (so as to be able to bring back take away food to the hotel)  in a comfortable hote (at least 4/5 on TA or yelp) l. I did not know the option on priceline express. I will try it out.

I found this one

4 star and a half 176 USD

World Trade Center - Wall Street

FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Pet friendly, Boutique hotel, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower

From the hotel lists I guess it could be Andaz Wall Street

Is it a good choice ? in terms of comfort I guess so but I am bit reserved about the location which could be very quiet

Posted

This listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but my guess is that it may be the Andaz with a slightly different amenity set. If the Andaz, certainly a really nice hotel, but the Wall Street/World Trade area is certainly not centrally located in the city and it's a real trek to Midtown.

I'm seeing a 4* in Rockefeller Center for $150 w/Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly.

-- This would be a possible match for the Doubletree Metropolitan.

the Doubletree seems to have an average feedback (I trust more yelp than TA)

I got two 4 star interesting description in LES

180USD FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Boutique hotel, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access

179USD FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Fitness center, Business center, Internet access

The first may be Hotel Indigo but it should b a 4.5star , the second Holiday Inn ??

But I am asking the experts , are they better value than the Garden Inn?

4 star Rockefeller  center 4/5 on TA 153USD

FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower

Could it be the shoreham ? bu it is rated 4.5 on TA

sorry again for the flip flop but I am on a very slow internet connection on a Norwegian flight from PTP to BOS

is this a better pick

3 star Madison Sq Garden 172USD

FULL AMENITIES: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access

could it be this time a downgraded Staybridge ?

This would cover all expectations price, location, size with kids enabling some dinners in the rooms and a free bkfast
