piperella Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 So, I'm trying to figure this all out to find a great deal. I'd like to get under $200 at a place that has comfy beds, non-smoking, and hopefully close to a subway station. I'd love to be in Times Square, but don't anywhere from times square south.. Is naming your price better tha PRICELINE EXPRESS deals? Just looking at express deals, I put in for a 5 star hotel under $260. I got one five star that says it allows pets, has a business center, and a fitness center. It shows as 268 the markout price and I can get it for 182. When comparing it on priceline, the only two five stars that have those three amenities in the wall street district are Conrad New York and The Ritz-Carlton New York. Do you think I am correct in thinking it is the Conrad New York? Any other tips to get a 4.5 / 5 star in the under $200 range.. with a king size bed? Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 Welcome to BetterBidding! Best guess for this 5 star Downtown - Wall Street hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) with Pets Allowed, Business Center, Fitness Center would be The Conrad New York. If you bid on PRICELINE there is no way to target (or avoid) a particular property, you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you choose. As well, all that is guaranteed by PRICELINE is a room that will accommodate double occupancy... if you want a King bed you will need to use PRICELINE EXPRESS (or HOTWIRE) and choose a hotel that shows a Bed Choice option where one of those options is a King bedded room. Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed, or how it goes if you take one of the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer above, and we'll take it from there. piperella Posted March 3, 2016 Author Report Posted March 3, 2016 Okay. Thank you for verifying that it should be the Conrad New York. The lack of being nearby a subway scares me... I'm guessing people uber to the subway? I appreciate your tip about wanting a specific bed choice. I have only used priceline before, so I may need to look at hotwire. Do you see one having an advantage over the other? I know in the past, I've stayed in the Times Square area, but it was a number of years ago and the hotel is no longer there or rebranded. I've seen on a few other replies, you recommended some areas that typically are good for priceline express and hotwire. Do you have a cut and paste list of those recommendations? I've tried to find them again, but haven't had much luck. We are going for a babymoon, so we want to go to a Mets game, some shopping, maybe a broadway show, and a couple of museums possibly. My husband has never been to NYC, so he's no help. :) Thanks again for your help!

'Close' is a relative term. It's less than a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway... NYers would walk it. To choose a Bed Choice you can use PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE... choose whichever has the best price (on an all-in basis) and that offers the bed type that you want, but as not all hotels show a 'Bed Choice' option, i wouldn't pass up a great deal where the hotel had great reviews and was in a good location on the basis of them not showing a King bed option, but your preferences/needs may be different than my own. All of the activities you mentioned are in midtown-centric... do you want to stay Downtown? I think you first need to decide and prioritize what is more important to you for this trip: star rating (there is often a big jump in price between 4* and 4.5*/5* hotels) location budget if a king bed is a need vs. want Let us know your thoughts regarding your priorities and we'll take it from there. piperella Posted March 4, 2016 Author Report Posted March 4, 2016 I'd like to stay in the midtown - times square - shopping - central park areas... When I looked at the areas again, I decided I didn't really want to be in the wall street area, as I feel that it is not as close as I'd want to be to most things. Budget is most important, as I want to spend less than $200 a night.. It really boils down to about $700 after taxes that I'm looking to spend for 3 nights. Location - I'd like to be in the areas mentioned above but am open to places that are more centrally located Star Rating - I really think I'd like to stay at the 4* and up. I'd want a king bed, but we'd be okay with a queen. Thanks again for your help. I apologize for the delay in response.
AaronJB Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 I'm not seeing any listings on PRICELINE EXPRESS with bed choice at the 4* level in your desired price range, unfortunately. However, I'll note that I'm seeing a 4* in Rockefeller Center w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Spa, Pet Friendly for $113 on HOTWIRE. That is likely the W New York and while you may not get the bed choice that you would like, that's a really tremendously reasonable price for this time of year and a deal that I think will not last. If you're going to spend a lot of the time not in the room and are flexible on bed for a cheap price, I'd grab that deal. piperella Posted March 5, 2016 Author Report Posted March 5, 2016 Thank you.. I'm totally open to Rockefeller and all those areas around midtown/times square/etc.. I don't know all the names of the areas. I am going to research the W New York now. Thank you.
AaronJB Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 Thank you for keeping us updated on what you decide. Let us know if you have additional questions. I'll also note that the Shoreham (upgraded to 4*, from 3.5* where it was last reported to the board) may be a slight possibility in this case. In any instance, $113 would be a very reasonable price for this period. piperella Posted March 5, 2016 Author Report Posted March 5, 2016 Hi there, I purchased what you mentioned on HOTWIRE: 4* in Rockefeller Center w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Spa, Pet Friendly for $113. We ended up getting Shoreham Hotel. We purchased the hotel protection (I'm pregnant so in case of medical emergency we might need to cancel) and it came out to $460! I didn't think that was bad at all for a 4 star hotel for that area. Thanks again for your help! I did want to add that we did look at bidding on PRICELINE, but with the additional fees, we were over $100 dollars over what we could get with the $113 hotel on hotwire. That helped us make up our minds.
thereuare Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 Congratulations on your success! An excellent deal for NYC this time of year which is right in the middle of peak season! Thank you for sharing your win with the board and helping us confirm the new star rating for this property in the Hotwire Hotel List.
