Priceline Hotel: 3* NYC (MTW) Paramount Hotel

Hi,

I am new to your site. I spent a couple of hours reading your advice and took the plunge on priceline for the first time yesterday. Here is what I bid:

Selected 4* MTW, bid $120- rejected

Selected 3* MTW, bid $125-accepted for the Paramount Hotel.

I checked the Paramount website and the lowest rate they list for that date is $285 so I am very happy! :)

Are we better off calling now to request the NS room and Queen or king bed, or should we wait until check in? What is the probability that we will be able to get NS and a queen bed?

Thanks so much for all of the tips. My next challenge is a rental car in Colorado for the last week of April.

I will go through savingsbarn.com next time. Sorry I didn't see that until after I bid.

Congratulations on your winning bid and thank you for sharing it wiht the rest of the board. Although this is a great rate relative to traditional rates, you may have been able to do even better as it is usually recommended to Lower Your Bid If You Lower Your Star Rating.

Aha- I see what you mean...a novice's mistake. When I added the 3* hotels, I should have lowered my bid- duh! :) It's a learning process and I'm sure the more bidding I do, the better I will get. So, for future reference, if I absolutely must stay in a particular zone, MTW, for example, and my first bid is rejected, the next move should be adding 3* and lowering the bid?

Usually, but it also depends upon the zone and how much the usual price difference is between 3* and 4* hotels.

Best bet is to post the details of your stay and we will suggest a strategy to follow.
