Hi all, this will be my first time trying either priceline or hotline so I want to make sure I get this right.

My goal is to get a resort type hotel in the immediate Disney area - the main thing is that we do NOT want to have to rent a car. Our travel dates are 10/18 to 10/25.

We have been to WDW many times so will not need to be doing the run, run, run thing. Waiting to take a shuttle is not going to stress us out.

I am thinking of doing the bidding thing because it seems like we can get a nicer resort for not much more than what we could pay for the one of the All Stars. We have stayed at the All Stars, Dixie Landings, the Dolphin (awesome), Coronado Springs etc. All have been fine - we are not picky.

I am coming up with a resort that at hotline for $77/night that I am guessing is the Wyndam based on clues from this site. First ? - is this a good guess?

2nd ? - it seems to me that if I bid at priceline for a 4* or higher I will pretty much be guarenteed a hotel that has transporation to WDW and a car would not be necessary. It seems to me that I would probably get one of these:

Resort Disney Dolphin (rare)

Resort Disney Swan (rare)

Resort Gaylord Palms Resort

Resort Hilton

Resort Marriott World Center

Resort Wyndham Palace Resort And Spa

which all would be fine with me. At what price would I start bidding for these properties?

Do any of you know of any situation where a person has bid for a 4* WDW area and ended up needing a car or worse, being in a place with no pool?

Sorry for the book - all help is appreciated! I am just about ready to take the plunge just need some reassurance lol!

If i was able to pull up the same 4* hotel via Hotwire at $77/nite as you did, then yes, best guess is that it's the Wyndham.

When bidding on Priceline, you'd want to select RESORT properties not 4* as you indicated). According to THIS POST, the resorts typically go for between $60-$75, and given the price in the Hotwire search i'd say that you'll likely be successful within that range.

I'm not knowledgable enough about the area to know about shuttle schedules and the like, but you may want to check out this post: Do Most Orlando Hotels Offer Shuttles

I'm sure it's possible that a hotel could be obtained that didn't have a pool, but i'd say it's very unlikely that a resort property wouldn't have a pool (but we are indeed buying an opaque product, so i wouldn't want to guarantee anything, although it's certainly a risk that i'd be willing to take)

If you decide to go with Priceline, it's important that you understand the concept of RE-BIDDING. If you don't understand re-bidding or are unsure of your re-bid zones, feel free to ask for more information OR post the zones you think are re-bid zones and we can confirm them for you. If you're comfortable with re-bidding zones, you have 8 re-bids, and i'd proceed as follows:

Select WDW and Resort level:

Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone and....

Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone and....

Bid $62, if rejected add re-bid zone and....

Bid $64, if rejected add re-bid zone and....

Bid $66, if rejected add re-bid zone and....

Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone and....

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone and....

Bid $72, if rejected add re-bid zone and....

Bid $74

Feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding any of the above.

Woohoo!!!!

I just took the plunge and got the Wyndham Palace for $62 per night!

We ended up going 10/20 - 10/27 since the air was quite a bit cheaper with better flights than going on sat.

I also found a code for Southwest - RR8HMX4R8H which was good for 15% off. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks all for your help - awesome site!
