AaronJB Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 The issue with Chicago in terms of tourism is that the area South of the river does get quiet at night. I'd generally recommend staying in a more central location, especially at the end of January. For example, the 4.5* Downtown-MP-GP w/Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly that you mention above is likely the Renaissance Blackstone, which is at the very South end of the zone.. When I go to BiddingHelper.com and search for these dates, then click "Hotwire Easy View", some highlights: 1. 4* Mag Mile-RN Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Spa $59-- Possible match for the Godfrey. This is a superbly located hotel right in the River North area, within easy walking distance to a lot of restaurants and nightlife. I've stayed at this property previously and enjoyed it quite a bit. However, a warning is that they have a bar area on the 4th floor with an open roof. While the roof certainly isn't going to be open in January, what I'd recommend is calling to ask for a higher floor. $59 for a 4* in superb location is quite reasonable. 2. 4* Downtown-MP-GP Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Wheelchair Accessible, Roll-in Shower $68-- Likely the Hyatt on Wacker. Largest hotel in the city and more of a convention property, but location's very central by the river. 3. 4* Mag Mile-RN Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Pet Friendly $62. -- Likely Sheraton Grand, which is a somewhat better location than the Hyatt, given that it's on the opposite side of the river. 4. 4.5* Mag Mile-RN Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Pet Friendly $82-- Likely Westin River North Please keep us updated on what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions before booking. I'd be happy to answer any city questions, as well. mknalewo Posted January 5, 2016 Author Report Posted January 5, 2016 wow many many thanks!!! i guess i will follow your advice and decide to catch sth north of the river! as i understand THE center is there not as i assumed south of the river :) i will probably try for what is supposed to be Godfrey. once more many thanks, i will make a booking during the weekend (using a PRICELINE or HOTWIRE link from the board) and will post winning bid
AaronJB Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 Happy to help - generally around the river or just North of the river (the Mag Mile-River North area on Hot.wire) are great options. The Loop area South of the river is problematic in terms of at night there are areas in the Loop that are much more office-heavy and are quiet at night. Thank you for keeping us updated on what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions. mknalewo Posted January 8, 2016 Author Report Posted January 8, 2016 Well, I was waiting with booking once I figure out all my staff with visa, and it looks it was a mistake... I would like to ask for help once more, as now I see hotwire changed slightly the districts and I cant find myself in it. I am putting 29-31.01 dates and I focus on two districts: downtown chicago river north and Mag mile - water tower. Especially what I found it may be interesting: 4* Magnificent Mile - Water Tower area hotel for 62 usd 95% recommended Business center Fitness center Internet access Restaurant(s) 4* Magnificent Mile - Water Tower area hotel for 62 usd 95% recommended Boutique hotel Business center Fitness center Internet access Restaurant(s) Smoke-free rooms 4* Downtown Chicago - River North area boutique hotel for 68 usd 90%recommende - is this possibly GODFREY? Boutique hotel Business center Fitness center Internet access Restaurant(s) Smoke-free rooms 4,5* Magnificent Mile - Water Tower area hotel for 72 usd 80% recommended Boutique hotel Business center Fitness center Internet access Restaurant(s) Unfortunately, with the current search i somehow cannot match with the hints you gave me above :(

mknalewo Posted January 9, 2016 Author Report Posted January 9, 2016 Hi guys, Yes my visa is settled, it was rather formality (actually i almost overlooked that previous one is expired) but just in case i preferred to wait few days and those few days made a change Basically I am planning to spend weekend in Chicago (29-31.01) just to get the feeling of the city - I have some training near there and I want to spend those two extra days as I have never been in Chicago earlier. I dont have specific plan yet, I just want to stroll around (although I guess the weather will not be my friend ), maybe visit some museum, eat chicago pizza plus some night life. For this I am looking for some decent place (like 4*), in the center, close to everything (so as AaronJB said north of the river), price range 50-80 usd (but free wifi is a must :)). Actually Godfrey hotel which was pointed to me by AaronJB was a perfect match - many thanks and bad for me I didn't book it. So I am looking at hotwire (and I am using hotwire not priceline for no other reason than custom) via BiddinHelper and in Downtown Chicago - River North I see following 4* hotels: - 68 usd - restaurants, boutique hotel, internet access, fitness center, somke-free rooms (90% recommended) - 60 usd - free internet, business center, boutique hotel, restaurants (but only 65% recommended, somehow i am afraid of this) In MagMile Water Tower (however here I would not like to land in a very north part of the area) I see following 4* hotels: - 55 usd - business center, boutique hotel, golf nearby, internet access (90% recommended) - 62 usd - business center, boutique hotel, internet access, restaurants (85% recommended) - 68 usd - restaurant, boutique hotel, internet access, fitness center, smoke-free rooms (90% recommended) - 68 usd - free internet, restaurant, business center, boutique hotel, self-service laundry, smoke-free rooms (80% recommended) - 73 usd (4,5*) - business center, restaurant, boutique hotel, internet access, fitness center So any recommendations and suggestions are highly welcome and I would be grateful for any hints (also if you have some suggestions what to do in the city during cold weekend in january )

AaronJB Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 Highlights when I search for 2: 4.5* Mag Mile-WT $104 Boutique, Restaurant, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet -- Possible match for the Ivy. 4* Mag Mile-WT $55 (+6.95 fee) Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly -- This would be a likely match for the MileNorth. For $55 + 6.95, this to me is is an easy recommendation. Great, cheap rate for a very nice, well-located property. 4* Mag Mile-RN $98 Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Wheelchair Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly -- Possibly the Dana. 4.5* Mag Mile-RN $83 Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Pet Friendly -- Possibly the Westin RN. 4* Downtown-Riverwalk $109 Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Spa -- Possibly the Virgin Please ask any questions before booking and thank you for keeping us updated. You may see slightly different prices. You may see slightly different prices than I do. Personally, I think $61.95 (w/the fee) for the potential MileNorth is a great "cheapest best" option. mknalewo Posted January 10, 2016 Author Report Posted January 10, 2016 many many thanks!!!!! i think a very last questions is if you have any idea what hotel may be revealed behind this deal: 4* MagMile- WT 62USD, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access MileNorth does not sound bad, and may be ultimately my choice (i have it for 56 usd + around 7 usd resort fee), but some of the reviews made me hesitate. Of course I will post an update and once more many thanks for your time and this portal - you guys are doing awesome job!
AaronJB Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 You are not going to find a hotel without occasional so-so reviews; some hotels are not going to be for everyone and people are going to have different experiences at times especially with a high-traffic city hotel. Price may also be a factor in someone's expectations, especially for someone who is paying $200 vs someone paying $50 for the same room. I've stayed in more than a few hotels for $50-75 that I found very enjoyable that I wouldn't have been as thrilled with if I paid the $200-300+ full price. It also becomes a matter of what are you looking for - are you just looking for a nice place to sleep and will be out most of the day or are you going to be spending a lot of time in the hotel? The 4* Mag Mile-WT you mention above for $62 could be a number of different possibilities, as those are very common amenities - the Warwick Allerton, Knickerbocker, Westin Michigan Ave, Drake, Sheraton, Public and Whitehall have all been seen with this amenity set at one time or another. Thank you for keeping us updated on what you decide. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.
