Welcome to BetterBidding!

Unfortunately this property has not yet been reported to the board and i'm unable to gain any additional insight into this one. With only 5 reviews by previous HOTWIRE guests, this is likely a new property recently added to the system OR a hotel recently upgraded/downgraded.

What are your needs for this trip? Is the Old San Juan zone the only acceptable location for this stay?

Thank you.   I didn't see it either, so wasn't sure what to expect.

This will be our first time to San Juan, so we were hoping to stay in Old San Juan or nearby (Candado).

We have a reservation we are able to cancel in Candado at a total price (after all fees/taxes) of about $195/night, but are searching for better values.

This one seemed possible, but we are a bit apprehensive unless we have a higher degree of certainty on the hotel.

We will continue to look and will report back if we book.

Where is your back-up hotel?

Also note we have a sister site RefundableRates.com which makes it easy to find your best options for cancelable reservations.

There's a 4* in the Condado zone on Hot.wire for $130 w/free parking, free internet and fitness; that hasn't been ID'd/reported, but with a 4.5/5 tripadvisor rating showing, certainly minimal downside risk given the excellent review ratings.

You do realize that your back-up hotel is not near either of your target locations? It is located within the boundaries of what both PRICELINE and HOTWIRE consider to be the 'Condado' area, but it is a bit out of the way and not really in the part of the zone that you want to stay in for convenience. If you're not renting a car i think you will be spending a lot of money on taxis if you ultimately end up staying here and wanting to go to the 'tourist' areas.

I think you should first decide what it is exactly you are looking for in a hotel for this trip... a nice hotel which is the destination in itself (and will be spending most of your time at the hotel), the beach, or exploring Old San Juan.

... so what are the main purpose of this trip and the most important aspects that you want to see/do?

Yes, we know where the hotel is.  I used "candado" because I was referring to Hotwire.

Their location is why we're still open to other options.  But for the price, we're fine where we're currently booked at.

Assuming no flight delays, we still get in late Thursday after flying all day.

Friday will be touring Old San Juan as much as we can, with a relaxing evening.

Saturday we will enjoy hotel and then board a cruise ship at the Pan American pier.

Regardless where we stay, the hotel is part of the destination, with touring Old San Juan during Friday.

There will be no beach activities.  We will attempt to take bus, unless taxis become our preference.

...the total is about $182/night which isn't a lot in savings from our backup known hotel.

Given the location of your back-up hotel, I would suggest not focusing solely on price. There may be a PRICELINE EXPRESS / HOTWIRE offer that offers very little in terms of savings (or that may even cost a little more), but is 'better' in terms of location, which would still be a worthwhile swap (imo) to your current hotel. (however, i don't think the HOTWIRE offer above is that property too is rated 3.5/5.0 in terms of location)

On HOTWIRE i'm seeing what looks like the Sheraton Old San Juan at $176/nite (before fees/taxes) which would put you right in the heart of Old San Juan and walkable to everything in that area... but not sure if you're willing to pay more then your current back-up to be right in the city.

I also see on PRICELINE EXPRESS what may be the Condado Lagoon Villas At Caribe Hilton, for $151/nite, should this be of any interest.

Let us know if any of the two properties mentioned above or if you want to stick with your back-up.
