AliceEveryday Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Looking at 5/25-30 in NYC and found in Central Park South category:60% off deal on Hotwire5* - $243No other details/amenities Found a similar deal on Priceline but can't find it now. Want a 4-5* hotel for $250 or so before taxes.
thereuare Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Welcome to BetterBidding! We have not yet seen a 5* hotel in this zone reported to the board without any amenities, and with no additional clues offered by HOTWIRE i don't have any insight into this offer. I am seeing this 4.5* Midtown East hotel (confirm your dates on the landing page) for $254/nite with Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center... best guess here would be the Omni Berkshire, which is well located and gets good reviews, if this should be of interest. (it also has lower taxes/fees then the HOTWIRE offer above which makes it cheaper on an all-in basis) Does this one work for your plans this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Let us know what you decide and how it goes or how we can be of further help (as i'm very familiar with NYC). AliceEveryday Posted November 17, 2015 Author Report Posted November 17, 2015 How did you determine the "out the door" total? And do you trust the "60% off" promo and the number of stars? I wondered if I could get a once-in-a-lifetime deal on a place really close to the park. Probably best to go with the safe choice... Also, GO BUCKEYES!
thereuare Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 How did you determine the "out the door" total?Click thru the booking page of the HOTWIRE offer and the Express offer above And do you trust the "60% off" promo and the number of stars? No, the percent off shown is the discount based upon the average rate of hotels of this star rating in the zone for your dates... not necessarily the specific hotel currently being offered. Also, GO BUCKEYES!We'll see how things go on Nov 28. ;) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AliceEveryday Posted November 18, 2015 Author Report Posted November 18, 2015 Currently looking at two options: This PRICELINE listing and this HOTWIRE listing. Would you suggest the 4* Price.line where there's enough info to determine the likely candidates, or the 5* Hot.wire listing where there's less info but a higher star rating? Hotwire says "the last person" got Viceroy, and also 1 Hotel. But I don't know if that's reliable.
thereuare Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 You can't link to hotel search results as you attempted to do above as the links won't work on any computer other then your own, and even then, will expire about 30 minutes after posted. What is the zone, amenities, and room rate per nite of the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer you're referencing? Did you not like the 4.5* PRICELINE EXPRESS offer linked above? (if not, so we can better determine the 'best' hotel for you for this trip, why not that one??) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. AliceEveryday Posted November 18, 2015 Author Report Posted November 18, 2015 I think I want to stick with Central Park South and see if I can find something there in the 4-5* range. Hotwire offer is 5*, $243, no other details listed. Hotwire says Viceroy was what last person got (is that legit?). $1588 for 5 nights. If I can trust the 5* rating, that seems like a great deal. Priceline express offer is 4*, $231, rated 8.0/10.0, guest favorite, restaurant, bed choice available, $1430 for 5 nights (including trip protection -- does hotwire offer this?) So would you take a chance at the blind 5* on hotwire or figure out the priceline hotel and choose it? I looked at all the Priceline 4* hotels on your list and they seem fine, but it would be great to know exact one.
AaronJB Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 HOTWIRE is not giving away the name of the underlying hotel, they are showing the last hotel bought at that star rating in that zone (which may or may not be the hotel mentioned, so this is not a reliable indicator.) The PRICELINE EXPRESS 4* Central Park South w/restaurant as the only amenity has not yet been ID'd/reported, but the Fitzpatrick Manhattan would be my guess in this case. Whether or not you want to roll the dice on a 5* w/no information (it doesn't even have any sort of HOTWIRE customer review information, perhaps a new hotel to the service?) is up to you. Obviously, there's no guarantees and not every hotel is going to be for everyone, so there is the chance it may not be what you'd hoped for. However, at the 5* level, if it turns out better than expected, the upside could be considerable. Without any information to guide, difficult to say. Please keep us updated with what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions. AliceEveryday Posted November 18, 2015 Author Report Posted November 18, 2015 I rolled the dice and won! My Hotwire listing contained NO information, just 5* and Central Park South. I got 1 Hotel Central Park at $243/night, which is great, considering their website rates start at $468/night. Hotwire said "the last person got the 1 Hotel Central Park," and I was hoping against hope that I would, too. THANK YOU for mentioning the Fitzpatrick Manhattan before. It led me to realize Priceline and Hotwire have slightly different boundaries, and I opted for the more conservative boundaries of Hotwire. If you're paying to stay by the park, you want to be by the park!
AaronJB Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Congrats on your success. :)I think this is definitely a case of rolling the dice and winning. This looks like a gorgeous newer property, not to mention in a terrific location. Thank you for letting us know about this new Hot.wire property so that we can update the site's Hotwire Hotel List. Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay.
