Priceline Hotel: Manhattan Nov20-22 3*/4* hotels

I will go to NY Nov20-22 and possibly Nov25-27 (not decided). First time to be in US. Have looked through some hotel prices in PRICELINE EXPRESS deals and found a 3* / 8+ hotel in Times Square with amenities "free internet" and "business center" only. By comparison with the listed hotels, my first guess is AKA Times Square. The express deals price is $136 and considering the tax and fees might a bit higher than my budget (though still I can take it if no better choice).

 

The question is: can I get a better price elsewhere in Manhattan (the all inclusive rate $140 or less)? I understand the zone "downtown-financial street" might be the one I can find better deals. Is there any caveat in this zone if I try bidding for 4* hotels there?  Many thanks.

I assume you're choosing between these two dates (and not confirmed for 11/20-11/22 and unsure of 11/25-11/27)? When will your dates be confirmed? Is it based upon the hotel offers for both sets of dates OR do you need other things (such as confirming dates with a traveling partner, time off from work, etc) to fall into place first?

Have you checked airfare for both sets of dates first as you're only 3 weeks out from this trip and you may be paying 'last minute' fares which can be quite pricey for an overseas trip.

Bidding for hotels is usually the least expensive way to go, but you have to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you choose vs. paying a little more thru PRICELINE EXPRESS and having a little more information about the hotel you will receive (user review ratings, amenities, etc). What is more important to you for this trip... the lowest possible price OR knowing a little more about the hotel?

In NYC the 'Downtown' zone is do-able, but not ideal, if most of your plans/activities will be focused around the midtown area... you're looking at about a 20-25 minute subway ride to midtown/Times Square from Downtown.

I'm sure of the first time slot Nov20-22 but has not yet decided if I will come back to NYC on Nov 25-27. So my question is mainly concerning Nov20-22.

 

Could you help on the priceline express deal I mentioned above and give some advice if my first guess is correct?

 

As to the bidding, I can accept the travel distance (25-30min by metro to the midtown) from the down town. But I'm not sure if there is some hotel we should avoid in the down town area. That's why I'm not sure about the bidding. any advice?

I'm not certain, but my guess for the 3* Times Square property would be the Tryp Times Square.

Thank you. But the deal hotel is rated 8+ while Tryp is only 5.8?

I was previously having trouble seeing the Tryp on my search so i couldn't compare this information, but i see it now, so would likely negate my guess of this property.
