amar85 Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Hi guys, I'm new to this forum & have never been to ny before, I'm looking at coming over on the 27th of Nov till the 1st of Dec, I'd ideally like to stay in a 4 star hotel at or around times square but I'm not overly fussy on this, anyone got any ideas on prices? Will I be able to book a room for around $450 all in or is that pushing it? The cheapest I've seen so far is the pennsylvania hotel at madison square garden for around $600, I understand this isn't a 4* but it was recommended by a friend, any help would very much be appreciated.
thereuare Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages (which will also remove the red box at the top of the page and make the board easier to navigate) The Hotel Pennsylvania is well located but gets awful reviews and i would suggest avoiding it. Your budget is a bit low for this time of year but there are some viable options slightly over your budget and/or a little further from Times Square (confirm all dates on the landing pages)... 3.5* Lower East Side for $138/nite with: Free Breakfast, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center ... my guess here would be the Comfort Inn Near Financial District HOTWIRE has a 4* in the Empire State Building zone for $138/nite with: Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Pet Friendly ... my guess here would be The Carlton on Maidson or The St. Giles The Court Let us know your thoughts on these offers and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
amar85 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 Hi, thankyou for the response & I've managed to get rid of the red baox & read my messages now :) The Carlton looks a very good hotel & I could stretch my budget to that, is it best to book it now or should I try my luck on priceline & see if I can get anything similar at a cheaper price?Any advice would be very much appreciated. Also was the prices for the Carlton inclusinve of tax etc? Thanks again.
thereuare Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Unless otherwise noted, all rates posted to the board are before taxes/fees (this helps keep things consistent since taxes/fees can change over time) NOTE that my guess for the HOTWIRE offer is for either the Carlton or the St. Giles The Court... my research puts this as a 'tie' and i can't favor one guess over the other. Whether to go with PRICELINE EXPRESS / HOTWIRE vs. bidding on PRICELINE depends upon what is more important to you for this stay... the former two allow you to take a guess as to the hotel you may receive, ensure certain amenities and/or a 'good' user review rating; the latter (bidding on PRICELINE) is usually a little cheaper, but you have to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you include in your bidding. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Let us know your thoughts/questions and how you'd like to proceed. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
amar85 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 Hmmm, I think I might want to try the bidding via priceline as I love a good bargain (typical Brit lol) Any advice on how to proceed? Should I just try the 4* hotels in the times square sector and look to bid a little lower then the HOTWIRE price & see how it goes?
thereuare Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 If you let us know which zone(s), by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept, and your maximum bid, we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. amar85 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 Preferable priceline zones would be: Times Sq theatre districtMid-town westMid- town eastMadison Sq Garden convention areaCentral Park South.(Are these locations within walking distance of each other?) Ideal rates would be up to $125 per night for a 4* if possible.
thereuare Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Times Sq theatre district Mid-town west Mid- town east Madison Sq Garden convention area Central Park South. (Are these locations within walking distance of each other?)Everyone differs on what is 'walkable', but generally speaking, "yes", they are walkabout to each other (or at the very least all walkable to Times Square, which is the center point of all of these locations). The two caveats: MTE - the eastern part of this hotel, which contains the One UN, is about a 15+ minute walk to the subway and a 25-30 minute walk to Times Square. This would be the 'worst case scenario' in terms of location in this zone. CPS - contains the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards)... would this be acceptable? Ideal rates would be up to $125 per night for a 4* if possible. While we can suggest a strategy for whatever bid amount you'd like, at current rates $125 in these zones is not likely realistic for these dates... you'll more likely need to be closer to the $150 area (and possibly as high as $175/nite) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Please confirm your zones (based upon the new information i have posted above) and your maximum bid and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. amar85 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 Thanks for the info, your knowledge is invaluable, I think I may try bidding on PRICELINE upto around $130 excluding CPS & MTE, if I get lucky then great if not it'll prob be more worth while to book the 4* offered on HOTWIRE for $138.
thereuare Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 So to confirm, you'd like to bid for a 4* hotel, up to $130/nite, in the following zones: Times Sq theatre district Mid-town west Madison Sq Garden Convention-Center If this is correct you can try as follows: When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 4* TS... amar85 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 I thinj I have the gist of the re-bid plus zones, so I re-bid but only after I add a zone where I know there arent any hotels which apply to me (in this case 4*).. Do you know which zones to use? Thankyou so much again
thereuare Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Do you know which zones to use?Yes, i know which zones to use... but it's important that you know which zones to use and how to check them as this needs to be confirmed before you start any bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked (as new hotels can be added, removed, upgraded, or downgraded at any time) See Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and confirm your re-bid zones with the board, or if you have read the information at the previous link and are still confused, then post back and we'll break it down further for you. amar85 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 OK I get it, I'll select zones & get them double checked before commencing bidding, most likely tomorrow now as I'm about to go to work.

amar85 Posted November 21, 2015 Author Report Posted November 21, 2015 I've left this till the last minute I know.. I'm about to start bidding can someone please confirm the re-bid zones for a 4 star & also are there any zones in NY that dont have a 3 star just in case I cant get a 4 star?
Romelle Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 Amar85, I'm a member, not a board official, but the way it works is you post what you've researched to be the re-bid zones and somebody here double-checks your research. A clue - at the 4* level there are currently two rebid zones. Also, you don't have to drop clear down to 3* if bidding 4* isn't working. There is bidding at the 3.5* level. At both the 3.5* and 3* levels there is currently one rebid zone. Romelle
AaronJB Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 If you click on a zone and you can select a star rating in that zone, there are possibilities at that star rating in that zone. Thank you for keeping us updated with what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions. amar85 Posted November 22, 2015 Author Report Posted November 22, 2015 Thankyou for the responses, after checking priceline I've deduced the re-bidding zones I need to use are: Coney Island = no 3, 3.5 or 4 starMorningside Heights - Harlem = no 4 star. Can somebody please confirm these so I can get bidding. Thankyou for your help, its much appreciated.
thereuare Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 Yes, you have your re-bid zones correct, but as noted above, always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked.
