anabeatriz Posted October 22, 2015 Report Posted October 22, 2015 Hello,I am going to NYC from 01/04 to 01/12. My preference is to stay near the Times Square. My maximum budget is about $ 170/night and I need a crib for my baby. Under these conditions, I saw good hotels, considering for example Times Square South and Times Square North. However, comparing prices of possible hotwire hotels to booking.com prices, the difference seems to be very little, thus seems to me that is better to book at booking, so I can make an assertive choice . What do you guys think? Do you have a suggestion? Thanks

thereuare Posted October 22, 2015 Report Posted October 22, 2015 Welcome to BetterBidding! You will likely see the same prices at booking.com as you see at the retail side of PRICELINE, please use our PRICELINE link for any 'retail' purchases you make... not just for PRICELINE EXPRESS and 'opaque' purchases. As well, our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com will plot all hotels (from PRICELINE, as well as from Hotels.com) on a map and the filtering capability there makes it easy to see options that are within your desired budget and star rating, and how much more/less it would cost to go up/down in star rating or to stay closer/further from your ideal location. When searching are you including 2adults/1child OR only 2adults? What 'retail' hotels are you finding of interest (so that we know what to compare to on the 'opaque' side)? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. anabeatriz Posted October 22, 2015 Author Report Posted October 22, 2015 Thank you for your attention :) Let me give you an example. On Times Square South, 4*, 2 adults, there are 4 options: $94, $163, $168 and $169 (hotwire) On priceline.com: - Doubletree Guest Suits $122 - Hilton Times Square $183 - Hotel Mela $179 - Millenium Broadway $260 - The Muse $191 - Paramount Hotel $132 - W Times Square $221 This is the second time that I'm using HOTWIRE, the last time I stayed in a great hotel and got a fantastic discount (more than 50%) - it was a totally opaque purchase, I haven't tried to discover wich hotel it was. But now, based on this research, it is not looking that hotwire discounts are good enough to make an opaque purchase. I don't know if I'm evaluating correctly. Would you have any suggestions under $170 in the central region (Times Square or Midtown Central), on hotwire?
thereuare Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 Few comments/observations... The HOTWIRE 4* Times South property at $94/nite has a 40% recommendation from previous guests... does this seem like something that would be acceptable to you for a 7+ nite stay? If not, then you should disregard this listing (and the $94/nite price tag) making the next best option(s) $163/nite and higher. As well, i believe the Doubletree Guest Suites property that you're looking at is THIS ONE (at 341 West 36th Street) which is not the Doubletree that is directly in Times Square... nor is it in HOTWIRE's Times Square South zone. This may be an acceptable hotel for your for this stay, but it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. I do see competitive offers, but let's backtrack a moment... would the location of the Times Square property above be acceptable or did you think this was the one that was directly in Times Square? anabeatriz Posted October 23, 2015 Author Report Posted October 23, 2015 Dear thereuare, thanks for helping me understand the mechanism of these sites :D I think you are right, there are good offers, and now I'm refining my search. Well, I don't remember which Doubletree I've searched, but I've been once at the one at Times Square, with a unique view, and was a great experience. Being there one more time would be nice, but I think I will try another one at this time - or not. Could you guys see if i am guessing right? a ) 3,5* Times Square North area boutique hotel 85% recommended $137/night Boutique hotel, Internet access I guess it is The Time Hotel (?) b )4,5*Times Square North area hotel 95% recommended $153/night Business center, Fitness center, Internet access, Pet friendly, Restaurant(s), Accessibility, Roll-in shower I guess it is Novotel (?) c )3,5* Times Square South area hotel 95% recommended $143/night Free Internet, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower I guess it is Tryp (?) d ) 4,5*Times Square South area hotel 95% recommended $168/night Free Internet, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access I guess it is The Algonquin e ) 4* Times Square South area hotel 70% recommended $94/night Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower I though it was Belvedere, but looks like Belvedere is not accepting reservations. f ) 5* Midtown Central area hotel 75% recommended $161/night Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access I guess it is Westhouse
