extradishes Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 I'm trying to get a room in the Phoenix area the night of March 7. I prefer Mesa because I plan to go to Fitch Park the next morning. However, in the end I would not mind staying in a neighboring area.I'm new to Priceline (but now I have some idea of bidding stategies), and new to staying in Phoenix. I'm not looking for a specific hotel, but I do prefer at least 2*. Any tips?

extradishes Posted January 21, 2006 Author Report Posted January 21, 2006 thanks. Great site you have here!I could go up to $80/night, including taxes, if necessary. I saw a 2.5* on Hotwire in Mesa for $66, so I thought I'd start my bidding below that. Obviously I don't want to exceed that price.
thereuare Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Is something like a Homestead Studio Suites sufficient for your needs, or would you prefer something a bit higher rated? Not sure if there is something going on in the area, but some of the 3* type hotels have unusually high rates for the above date. extradishes Posted January 21, 2006 Author Report Posted January 21, 2006 Homestead Studio Suites would be great. Days Inn is not okay. The entire month of March is MLB spring training. Preliminary games for World Baseball Classic are also going to be held that week in Phoenix. Should I wait until right before I leave to see if package-block rooms are released?
thereuare Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 We have not see a Days Inn reported in this zone, so if there is one, i can't tell you if it would be rated 1* or 2*. There has been a Homestead Suites reported at the 2* level, but we don't know what else is out that at that rating. What is the minimum star rating that you wish to bid? extradishes Posted January 24, 2006 Author Report Posted January 24, 2006 I'd like to start bidding at 2*. I guess I'm willing to risk the Days Inn, if it's rated 2*. What amount should I start my bidding?
thereuare Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 You don't have any re-bid zones available, i would bid $28 for a 2* hotel.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
extradishes Posted January 24, 2006 Author Report Posted January 24, 2006 My bids were rejected:$26 for 2* in Mesa$28 for 2* in Mesa + Tempe$30 for 2* in Mesa + Tempe + ScottsdaleI'll raise my bids in 72 hours. Thanks for all your help!
thereuare Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Why didn't you say you were willing to bid those other zones as well? You can bid better than you did.Are those other zones acceptable to you? Are those the only other zones acceptable? bbbb Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Did you get any kind of counter offer on any of those bids?
extradishes Posted January 25, 2006 Author Report Posted January 25, 2006 No, no counter offers on any bids. in the first post, I said I wouldn't mind staying in a surrounding area. Mesa, Scottsdale and Tempe are the only acceptable zones, in that order of preference. Sorry, I should have made that clear. What criteria do you use to determine a starting bid?
thereuare Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Bump this thread just before you're able to bid again and we'll look at current rates and suggest how to proceed. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
