A few questions/thoughts:

1. This listing hasn't been ID'd/reported to the board, but my guess is that the Holiday Inn ORD may have been upgraded to 3.5*.

2. Are you flying in or driving in? If you are driving in, I'd rather suggest the North suburbs. If you are flying into ORD you are really more limited to ORD or downtown.

3. I definitely understand the prices downtown for these dates are on the high side, but I will say if you're going to be going downtown every day, having to take the "L" in each way for an hour from ORD is not fun in the slightest. If you are interested in downtown what would be your absolute max? If you are driving, I'd much rather suggest the North burbs and I'd be happy to outline options there.

R: Im flying from New York

R: You have reason about so far the ORD Airport is (about one hour) especially 3 nights, but de prices downtown are so high (maybe Cubs in playoff or fall season), my budget is US D150 per day. I have looked ORD specifically the Rosemont zone near the Outlet, for my wife.

Thank you for you cooperation.

There is a 3.5* in the Downtown-MP-GP area for $155 on HOTWIRE for these dates w/Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Handicapped Parking.

-- This is likely the Essex Inn. This is not a particularly noteworthy property - it's a fairly basic property (HOTWIRE's 3.5* rating is a bit much) in the South area of the Loop. Trek to Michigan Ave, but pleasant walk on a nice day up Michigan Ave. Or, could walk the short distance to the lake then head South to Museum Campus. So, this wouldn't be a great option but at least you'd be downtown.

Unfortunately, that's really the only thing around $150 or under for these dates.

The other thought would be to split your stay, potentially a day out by the airport and then a couple of days downtown.

Or:

1. There is a 2.5* for $155 for 10/14-16 ONLY in the Lakeview Lincoln Park zone on HOTWIRE w/Complimentary Breakfast, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry.

-- Not sure what this is as it hasn't been reported to the board, but if you click on the HOTWIRE listing, then scroll down you should see a tripadvisor logo with a 4.5/5 rating (4.5/5 circles shaded.) A guess for this may be the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace, although I'm not certain. The Lakeview/Lincoln Park area is very nice - it's a 20-30something heavy area with a lot of boutique shops and restaurants. Public transit to downtown is available either via bus or the Red Line/Brown Line "L" So, not downtown, but a nice area with some sights (including the Zoo) not terribly far North of downtown.

2. There is a 4.5 in the McCormick Place area for $100 for 10/16-17 ONLY w/Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Wheelchair Accessible.

-- This is likely the Hyatt McCormick. There isn't much of anything at all right around this property, but you can take the Metra from McCormick or taxi the fairly short distance to downtown. This is primarily a hotel for people coming for a convention.

In terms of outlets, if you did want to drive/rent a car, then there's Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets (http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=90) North of the border in Wisconsin and Gurnee Mills (http://www.simon.com/mall/gurnee-mills) right before the border. Further NW in Wisconsin is the resort town of Lake Geneva (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g60022-Lake_Geneva_Wisconsin-Vacations.html), which isn't something I'd recommend for multiple days, but does make for a pleasant 1 night getaway not far from Chicago. Nearby Burlington is also pleasant and does have the US HQ of Nestle, so while the factory doesn't offer tours, the town sometimes does smell like chocolate. Burlington also has the Brightonwoods Orchard (http://www.brightonwoodsorchard.com/), which is a very pretty apple orchard and winery.

So:

Option 1: Stay by ORD all three nights.

Option 2: Rent a car, flexibility in where you stay in the outlying area and shop and see some of the sights outside the city, as well.

Option 3: Potential Essex Inn Downtown

Option 4. Split stay between two hotels on opposite ends of the city.

Option 5: Split between ORD and downtown.

Let me know what appeals and if you have any questions before booking and I'd be happy to offer further details/suggestions.
