Priceline Hotel: 3.5* New York City (Midtown West) Club Quarters, Opposite Rockefeller Center

Your recommendations on other posts helped me narrow down my zones for an upcoming NYC trip.

Specifically, I used your recommendations to center my search on MTW, TS and ESB.

I started at $150/night for a 4* and worked my way in $10 increments to $200.

I then restarted at $150 for a 3.5* and worked my way in $10 increments to $210.

Finally, I continued the 3.5* bid in $5 increments until I succeeded with the $225 bid in Midtown West.

I had a $309 refundable hotel booked near Times Square as a backup - which I will now cancel.

 

I'd raise the red flag that 4* bids including the Times Square zone now have a $109 "Hotel Fee" (noting that I was bidding on 2 rooms for 2 nights). I'm not sure if that's $27.25/room night or a flat fee. I'm also not sure if that would have been tacked on to a successful bid for ALL hotels in that zone - or if it was a warning that you 'may be' charged an extra $109 for this stay, depending on which hotel wins. I wasn't thrilled about that possibility, so I removed Times Square from my higher 4* bids. The "Hotel Fee" was not listed in 3.5* bids.

The hotel fee is a possibility based upon which hotel wins.

You're also not far from my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers, which i suggest you give a try one morning.
