We are young couple first time in new York

We will stay in the city for 6 nights between sep25 to oct01.

We are looking for 3 stars hotel somewhere in the island to visit in the turist places.

Our budget is low for the season maximum 190-200 include tax.

Thanks for any help and recommendations.

The Pope is coming to NYC during the beginning of these dates and will make your budget, even on a pre-tax/fees basis, extremely difficult.

I know you are already traveling about and moving around a bit, but is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option for the dates above? (or if your plans are flexible can you consider changing the order of your NYC/DC/Update NY stays?)

Also, to avoid any confusion (and so we don't research and/or suggest strategies that are over your budget), please indicate your budget in terms of maximum bid price before taxes/fees.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

Hi again.

Unfortunately I can't change my dates.

I prefer not split my bid but what can I do?

My maximum bid before tax is around 165 170 because with tax is 200.

What you suggest? Stay in new jersey or brooklyn?

I'm not a big fan of Brooklyn or Long Island City (Brooklyn has been redeveloped and parts of it are great, but i'm talking in terms of a hotel and commuting daily into Manhattan for the typical tourist)... but either of these, or NJ, will be your best options.

Are you driving from upstate NY to the Manhattan area? (if i correctly recall the different legs of your trip) If so, will you still have a car when in the NYC-metro area? Are you leaving the NYC area from JFK?

You are right.

I am driving from upstate NY to Manhattan (want to be in jersey garden on 24) and leave NY from JFK(flight depart at 10.55pm)

I have a car till 10AM on sep26

So your plan is to shop on 9/24? What about 9/25... or will you start touring NYC at this point?

Where do you return the rental car? Is your rental non-refundable OR is there a chance to extend the rental period?

I plan to start touring nyc on sep25

I return the car in National office in Manhattan.

I can change or extend the car rental but I don't want to stay far from Manhattan and looking for parking every day. I prefer to use the subway

Your budget is tight for just about anything in the immediate area, so the idea behind extending your car rental was so that you could drive to someplace where you could commute into NYC as ... not so that you could drive into the city each day.

On PRICELINE EXPRESS to get something under $165/nite you would need to go down to the 2.5* level in Long Island City or the 2* level in Brooklyn... if staying in NJ you could potentially get something in the $80-$120 area but this would also come with the possibility of needing to make a short drive to the bus/train station in order to get into Manhattan.

Your thoughts?

I prefer to stay in brooklyn/NJ/long island

I find 6nits in laquinta brooklyn east for 950usd? (Free cancelation)

Do you think this is the best place I can find?

What you suggest for me ?

The La Quinta Brooklyn would be do-able, but it's not ideal, and a far cry from your first post of '...somewhere in the island'.

If you do decide to book this one please use the board's La Quinta link (also found in our Support Page) or thru our sister site's RefundableRates.com or MAPS and HOTELS.com.

I would also re-consider SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID as you are (i assume) traveling a long way for this trip and should try to stay directly in Manhattan for at least part of your stay (to really get the feel/excitement/buzz of the city)

Let us know what you ultimately decide or how we can be of further help.
