dundies Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 I am going to NY from 06/11 to 09/11, and I would like to know what strategy of bidding I should use, for a 4,5* or a 4* hotel at TS, ESB, MTW areas. Can anyone help?
AaronJB Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 Welcome to Betterbidding. What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay? dundies Posted August 23, 2015 Author Report Posted August 23, 2015 Hi, tks!I will use it! I don't know if it is possible, but I would like to spend no more than $140.
AaronJB Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 Unfortunately, NYC is really busy in the late Fall/early Winter and $140 is not going to be realistic for a 4 or 4.5*. I think you're likely looking at at least around $170-190+ for a 4* (more depending on the zone) and I'm surprised that rates are not higher given that this is traditionally an expensive period. dundies Posted August 23, 2015 Author Report Posted August 23, 2015 I see.. And do you know why some biddings have a hotel fee, and others don't?
thereuare Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 When you get to the 'preview bid' screen by PRICELINE, at this point they have not checked inventory for your dates and therefore don't know which hotel you will win (if your bid is high enough to be accepted at any hotel). Therefore, they show you the highest resort fee of any hotel in the zone at the star rating you're bidding so that you know the 'worst case scenario' in terms of your total cost. If the hotel you win doesn't have a resort fee, then there is nothing to pay directly to the hotel... if the hotel you win has a resort fee that is less then was indicated on the 'previous your bid' page, then the lower amount is paid directly to the hotel. As your expected $140/nite is not likely realistic for these dates, what were your thoughts in terms if increasing your budget, lower your star rating, and/or including other zones? dundies Posted August 23, 2015 Author Report Posted August 23, 2015 I think i'll lower tHe rating. Do u think is possible to spend at max 140 for a 3,5* hotel?
AaronJB Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Do u think is possible to spend at max 140 for a 3,5* hotel? Unfortunately, I think at 3.5* you're still looking at mildly over $140 although it's worth a try to start lower and work up to $140 in the hopes that there's an unexpected win. dundies Posted August 24, 2015 Author Report Posted August 24, 2015 When I select 3,5* can I get a hotel with higher ratting than that? Because in the EBS area I would prefer a 3,5* hotel than a 4*.

When bidding on PRICELINE the star rating you choose is the minimum that you're willing to accept, so there is always the possibility that your bid can be upgraded to a higher star rating. thereuare Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 I will add to the above that while an upgrade to a higher star level is possible, at current rates and your budget, i don't think an upgrade in the ESB zone is likely. If you only want a specific star rating and not be upgraded, then PRICELINE EXPRESS might be a better option.
