Priceline Hotel: Need advice for Maui Feb 10-17th

Bidded Kaanapali resort Maui $150-$165 declined all times.

April 2005, I won Maui Priceline Resort Kaanapali for around $155. This year, I'm not expecting to get that price. I've tried a few times staring at $150 and working up to $165 within the past week. So I'm wondering what I should do. I want to break my stay in Maui, perhaps 3 days in one part of the island area and 4 days at another. Paying around $200 for a resort seems excessive. So my wife and I are thinking going with a 3*.

My question: Which part of the island has the best three star hotels? Kaanapali was nice, but did seem kinda "touristy", we're not looking to snorkel.

I've heard of the Maui Coast Hotel in Kihei. Is that the only 3* there? What would be a good starting bid? Do the 3* hotels also have a "resort" fee?

I'm sorry but I'm not that familiar with the 3 star properties in Maui. I haven't stayed in any myself, and it seems that priceline bidders are always interested in the luxe choices.

In your case, however, I'll be surprised if you can get a good priceline deal on a 3 star for your nights. Certainly worth a try -- and I wouldn't try to be too picky about which part of the island. It's pretty much going to take a miracle for that week due to what looks like high demand. I'd probably start at $80 or $90, work up to $125, and then give up.

Have you tried looking for an Entertainment Card 50% off deal with the Outrigger and Aston chains? Not sure if they'll give you that week, but that's exactly where I'd start here.

A better value choice might be renting a vacation house or staying in a b&b or guest house. Those aren't usually value choices when priceline is available, but when regular hotel prices are high, they can offer a good alternative.
