Hello All,

I'd like to start by thanking everyone for their assistance and kindness with their advice on this site. I've read multiple forums and everyone seems to be helpful.

Betterbidding is very informative and I'm very interested in learning the tricks of bidding. I've never tried it before!

And now for the good stuff.

My fiancee and I are getting married (elopement) on the weekend of September 11th-13th, 2015. It'll actually be in Central Park so we have some leeway in location. But it's a once in a lifetime occasion so I'd like it to be very special (if its in my budget).

This is what I've found so far.

Priceline Express Deals

Central Park South  5* for $348

Midtown East 5* for $425

Upper East 5* for $596

Midtown West N/A

Upper West N.A

Earlier this year we stayed at the WestHouseNYC hotel (classified by Priceline as a 5* I believe) and I only paid $227 per night (not including $30 per person per night amenity fee). So essentially $257 per night for a Deluxe Queen.

And that was using a 25% special I had received from them via email. I checked out the WestHouse today and the only room available is a 2 Queen for $459. I know its a busy weekend due to 9/11 ceremony but Yikes.

It would be great if we could have a suite due to the fact she'll be having hair and makeup done in the room. But I know this is not very likely.

My question is what technique should I try to get the very best NYC five star hotel near to Central Park.

What is the minimum bid I should start with? I'd say my budget is probably $400 per night max.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Peter

Welcome to BetterBidding! (and congratulations on your upcoming marriage)

Not only will the city be busy this weekend due to 9/11, but it's also high-season, and you will likely pay dearly for a 5* hotel. If you're looking for something 'very nice' as opposed to "it has to be a 5 star property" how about what i believe to be the Sofitel for $267/nite thru PRICELINE EXPRESS? It gets excellent reviews and will be well under your $400/nite budget (which gives you the opportunity to do something 'extra' for your bride-to-be on your wedding day)

I'm also seeing The Benjamin for $273/nite and the Archer Hotel New York for $312/nite (ESB zone but very well reviewed)

If you prefer reaching for a 5* property i'm seeing what looks like The Knickerbocker Hotel for $340/nite or what looks to best match your original criteria above, i believe this 5 star Central Park South offer for $342/nite to be The Quin (confirm your dates on the landing page and should show amenities of: Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center)

Does The Quin meet your needs OR do you prefer one of the other alternate options?

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

Let us know your thoughts (or how it goes if you take the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer believed to be The Quin) and we will take it from there.

Thank you so much for your research. I decided to try out your idea of Priceline Express for "5 Star Hotel in Central Park South Area for $323/night".

And you were 100% correct!  I ended up with The Quin for 2 nights at $323 per night; still within my budget!

It is rated on Priceline as an 8.6 out of 10, so I'd be surprised if it isn't a better stay than the WestHouseNYC.

Some of the amenities listed are:

Free Internet

Pet Friendly
Non-Smoking
Gym
Restaurant
Handicap Accessible
Business Center

My confirmation says that the room is assigned at check-in so I don't know exactly what I got.

I am going to try to email the hotel directly to see if I can make sure I get a non smoking/pet free room. Any other ideas on a possible upgrade for the special occasion?

Thanks again for your help.

Oh I forgot to mention... when you responded to my post I never got an email notification. So I didn't realize until I checked again later in the evening.

Perhaps that is something that can be implemented?

Thanks again.
