Hi I just joined today, I am going to be in Chicago 22-26 of this month. I am taking my 14 year old grandson, from what I been reading Mag seem to be a nice area, was thinking here or in loop but not sure if would be to noisy at night. Your input would be great about these 2 areas, not looking to spend tons of money on hotel just want it clean and comfy because I don't spend time in it other than to sleep and shower. I did go on Hotwire but I am not seeing were they are smoke free, I go as far as check out where do I find this info? Also I notice you don't get to pick your room I looking for 2 beds not a roll bed. How do I make sure I get what I am looking for?

Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

HOTWIRE guarantees sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search. By searching for triple/quad occupancy you can ensure separate sleeping accommodations for two people, and while this often means two beds in the room, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc.

If this is not an acceptable option, you can try searching PRICELINE EXPRESS and look at any offers that show a 'BED CHOICE' option and see if any of the options listed indicate a room with two beds.

What is your expected budget (per nite before fees/taxes) for this trip and your desired/minimum star rating?

In terms of being more interested in just a nice place to sleep and not wanting to go for a lot of amenities/high cost, the "best of the cheapest" that I am seeing downtown for these dates is a 3.5* in the Mag Mile-RN area for $107 (you may see a slightly different price) w/Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower.

-- This would be a possible match for the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza. You would have to request a non-smoking room. If you don't mind trying to negotiate with room assignment a bit, this is a very good deal if you are just looking for a place to sleep.

In terms of a property with a listed smoke-free amenity, there is a 4* for $149 Mag Mile N-WT w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Wheelchair Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly.

-- This would likely be the Public. If you are looking for quiet, this property is in a very lovely residential area a couple of blocks North of the Gold Coast area. If you're up for a bit of a walk, it's a very pleasant walk from here to the zoo. However, this is at the very tip-top of the zone, so it is not centrally located. However, there is a Red Line subway a few blocks away.

Please keep us updated with what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions. I'm very familiar with Chicago and would be happy to help with hotel or city questions.

Aaron thank you, yes only sleep in comfy bed and shower, will be out seeing the city :)

I think I am trying to be centrally located.

Mag seem to be a safe area from what I've been reading, but I also may have to look in other areas trying to stay in that price range but need 2 queen beds, is all the loop area and theater district also safe?

The issue that I have with the Loop area is that you may wind up in the South Loop or West portions of the Loop, which can be quiet/very quiet nights and weekends. If you stay in the West portion of the Loop, for example, you may see that common things like Starbucks and McDonalds may not be open Saturday and/or Sunday. A fairly decent portion of the Loop is more office-oriented. I usually suggest staying North of the river.

There is no way to guarantee bedding type via HOTWIRE. If you search for more than 2 adults (as I did - 2 adults/1 child - to produce the above results that I mentioned) you should get some form of bedding for the entire party.

The potential Holiday Inn Mart Plaza that I mentioned above is about the cheapest thing that HOTWIRE showing that is worth consideration. The issue with that would be that you'd have to call to request a no-smoking room. If that is the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, I'll also note that there's a little restaurant/bar off to the side of check-in that has some pretty tremendous views of the river.

Again, please feel free to ask any questions you may have before booking.

I think your question above pertains to the same property... not two different properties. See the bolded and italics comments from the previous post:

Note that the name of the hotel is "The Public".

Are you searching for 2adults/1child as AaronJB did on his own search?

Aaron what is the name of the 4* for $149 I can't seem to find that one. Also what is the name of the one in the Public area Gold Coast area.

The $149 is in the Mag Mile N-WT area.

Again, definitely let me know if you need sightseeing/restaurant recommendations.

It's not something I'd recommend, especially when there are more compelling options available above. That property has smaller rooms and you're in the middle of a very office-heavy area; there's going to be nothing going on around this property at night and it will be quiet on weekends in the vicinity.

I'll continue to recommend the potential Holiday Inn Mart Plaza for $107 on HOTWIRE - that's a very nice rate if you don't mind calling the hotel to negotiate room assignment. If you're just looking for a place to sleep, I'll continue to note that as a very good option.

There's also a 4.5* in the Loop for $142 w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly.

-- This would likely be the Wyndham Grand Riverfront.

Would either of these options be appealing? If not, please let us know more about why so that we can take those into account when making further recommendations.

Is Wyndham less offices around, not seeing a $142 price on that. The problem is I need queen beds, my adult daughter is also coming besides my 14 year grandson, so I will be sharing a bed with my daughter that is reason for queen bed

If two queens is the only acceptable option then there is no way to guarantee specific bedding via the discount services, aside from if a PRICELINE EXPRESS listing shows bed choice. If you search for more than 2 people on Hot.wire (as I have above) you should get some form of bedding (may be 2 beds, bed + rollaway or bed + sofabed) for the entire party.

In terms of the potential Wyndham, are you seeing a 4.5* in the Loop with that amenity set and a similar price?

WOW, that is all I can say about all this. I travel all over the world and never had such a hard time trying to find 2 queen beds. But anyway I was in the process of booking Wyndham for $181. 2 queen beds when all of a sudden a box popped up stating the price just increased. The search started again, I did end up finding queen bed and a sofa that opens up at the River Hotel, so that where I am ending up.

I want to Thank all of you for putting up with me and all your help, so happy I found this site, I'm sure your happy I finally found a hotel the pain in the butt is gone LOL. What made it worst I was trying to do this on my breaks at work, which put me under more pressure because I couldn't find anything.

Thanks again until next time
