cathytnguyen Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Hello Betterbidding! I am new to this and priceline so I'm not completely sure how everything works. I'm making plans for a trip to NYC (first time) and am looking for a hotel for 3 nights, within the <$200 CAD price range. Is this too low of a budget? I have never been to NYC and am not familiar with the price points. The dates are flexible, I know really late minute but the trip is last minute as well… I’m looking within the next 3 weeks of August before school starts again in September. Free WiFi is ideal. And because it is mine and my bf’s first time, we would prefer to stay within the Times Square area or surrounding but not too far in the outskirts? I would say walkable to time square.Thank you for any advice, comments, suggestions.
AaronJB Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Rates really vary (sometimes substantially) from day-to-day, so if you don't have confirmed dates, then I'd recommend starting to play with different date combinations on Hot.wire. If you see a couple of listings of interest, please let us know the complete details of the listing - amenities (including accessible, star rating, zone, price per night (in USD, before taxes/fees.) Times Square is arguably the most popular/well-known area, but it's also the most expensive/hectic/crowded and there's so much more to NYC than Times Square. Have you done any research and made any sort of plans as to what you might want to see/do? cathytnguyen Posted August 6, 2015 Author Report Posted August 6, 2015 I found these 2 on HOTWIRE for 8/14-8/17. 3* $180CAD/night Times Square - Theater District Area Hotel Pet friendly Smoke-free rooms Fitness center Restaurant(s) Business center Internet access Accessible for visually impaired In-room accessibility Wheelchair accessible Accessible bathroom Accessible parking 65% recommended 2.5* $163CAD/night Times Square - Theater District Area Hotel Free breakfast Smoke-free rooms Business center In-room accessibility 90% recommended I'm thinking the 3* one is the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square and 2.5* New York Inn? I've done a fair bit of research. We're from Toronto (Canada) and I've actually never travelled anywhere before so I mostly just want to do the tourist-y things. Mostly the food tho - Halal guys cart, classic shake shack, best NYC pizza & bagels, and buy some cookie butter from Trader Joes because we don't have that here, lol.
thereuare Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 ... in USD, before taxes/fees.You can use the dropdown menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's home page to change the currency from CAD --> USD. This helps keep prices posted on the board consistent and not subject to future interpretation based upon current exchange rates at that time. My recommendation would be this 4* Midtown East htoel for $142/nite. It only shows a Restaurant amenity which doesn't give much information to go on, but i believe this one to be the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel. More importantly it has an 8.0+ user review rating from previous Price.line guests, which is very good, but also eliminates the possibility of the ONE UN (as currently this property has a user review rating less than 8.0)... so should my guess be wrong it should still be a very nice hotel at this price. If i'm correct on the ID of this property the hotel gets excellent reviews, is a block from Grand Central where you can get the subway to just about anywhere in the city, and about a 10+ minute walk to the heart of Times Square (or take the 7 Train or S train from Grand Central if it's too hot or raining out) Does this one work for your needs?
