plant79
Hi trying to identify these hotels on hotwire for 7/31 and 8/1. I am going for pleasure on the back of a business trip and want to be central to most things as I am traveling alone and in a safe area. Magnificent Mile - WT - Business Center, Internet Access , 3.5* 90% recommended. $199 a night Magnificent Mile - WT - 4.5*, Business Center, Internet, Restaurant, Fitness Ctr, Pet Friendly, Smoke Free rooms, Indoor Pools, pool, $217 per night Link to comment
AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The 3.5* amenity set has been seen with the Doubletree Mag Mile and Holiday Inn Express Cass, but those are very common amenities and this may be something else not yet reported. 4.5* - if you click on the listing, then click "book now", then "see all amenities", do you see: Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly If so, the Omni would be a possibility. Please keep us updated with what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Link to comment
plant79
Ended up deciding to stay out toward the botanical garden on Friday night to allow easier travel and rent a car. Will update if I decide to stay in downtown on Sat. I used Hotwire link and got The Westin Chicago NorthShore for $76 a night. 4.5 star, Northbrook, Amenities - Free parking, smoke-free, restaurant, pet friendly, fitness center, business center, indoor pool, internet access. You should be able to park at the Lake Cook Road Metra station (might be $1-2) and take the Metra in if you'd rather take the Metra than drive downtown. The Botanic is a straight line East on Lake Cook Road - a bit of a drive (moreso in morning/evening rush) but not bad at all. I'm quite familiar with this area - let me know if you have any questions. There isn't a lot right directly around this Westin, but Highland Park, Lincolnshire, Glenview and other nearby towns have a lot of nice restaurants. The Botanic can easily take up half a day if you've never been there. Enjoy your stay. Link to comment

plant79
Any restaurant ideas for Friday would be great. I am a horticulturist by trade coming up to visit Ball Seed so I will probably end up at the garden most of the day Sat. Link to comment

AaronJB
Any restaurant ideas for Friday would be great. I am a horticulturist by trade coming up to visit Ball Seed so I will probably end up at the garden most of the day Sat. Abigail's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/abigails-american-bistro-highland-park) is a great little restaurant in Ravinia, which is an easy drive from the Botanic. Bluegrass (http://www.yelp.com/biz/bluegrass-highland-park) gets a bit further away, but offers good Cajun food. I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard good things about Mizuki Grill in downtown Highland Park (http://www.yelp.com/biz/mizuki-grill-highland-park) and I do like Norton's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/nortons-restaurant-highland-park) nearby. It's a bit further North in Highwood but La Casa De Issac (http://www.yelp.com/biz/la-casa-de-isaac-highland-park) is also a fine choice for Mexican and is on Groupon a fair amount (there is currently a deal on Yelp for it.) If you did wind up in Highland Park, If you take Central Street in Highland Park to the West, it becomes Deerfield Road. Deerfield Road eventually gets to Milwaukee Road. Take Milwaukee a little bit South and you'll see your hotel. Closer to the Botanic - if you just want pizza, there's Barnaby's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/barnabys-of-northbrook-northbrook), which isn't the world's best pizza but is very good with a nice cornmeal crust. The appeal of Barnaby's is the pizza, but for locals, the other appeal is that the place has basically not changed - to the point where it appears stuck in time - in 30 years. Hole in the Wall (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g36464-d429995-Reviews-Francesco_s_Hole_In_The_Wall-Northbrook_Illinois.html) is a tiny but very nice little Italian spot within literally a couple of minutes drive of the Botanic. In terms of nature areas, Cook County (where the Botanic is) has a decent selection of forest preserves, but Lake County just to the North has a much more well-maintained selection. Ryerson Woods (http://www.lcfpd.org/ryerson/, http://www.yelp.com/biz/ryerson-woods-forest-preserve-riverwoods) is a highlight, but there are many others. Ryerson is not far from your hotel at all. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Enjoy your stay. Link to comment
