hey,

first of all sorry about mu bad English. i'm writing for you from Israel.

just won the ONE UN nyc for 170 usd/ nite.

the amenities:

fitness center,

restaurant s

business center

self service laundry

internet access

tennis nearby.

we will be in the city at 8-13 oct, and it wont be our first time. it was our first time on hotwire, and we were looking for good price - not more than 200 / per night , and we wanted the midtown (center/ east/ west).

I have to admit that i am a little bit concerned about this hotel. the reviews about the east building are not so good. and I understand from the forum that a lot of people wish to avoid this hotel.

we are young couple, and not have a problem with walking, so its not the problem, but still I feel confused.

what do you think about this win,

and about the hotel?

thank you very much.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

You could try emailing the hotel, explaining that it's your first time in NYC and that you're concerned about some of the reviews, and you wanted to inquire about getting assigned to nicer of the two towers (if you're willing to pay for an upgrade to the nicer tower you can inquire in your email how much it would cost to do so, OR wait for their first response as maybe they will mention an upgrade price or offer it for free)

As for the location... it's a bit east, so it's less than ideal, but completely do-able. However, a current HOTWIRE search shows nothing anywhere close to the $170/nite you paid, so if your budget was firm i don't think you could (at least not based upon current prices) do much better for a 4* hotel in Midtown.

Also, you're not too far from my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (on Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.

I will try to send them email, do you think that there is any chance for free upgrade? they do it sometime?

The Fall/early Winter in NYC is usually expensive or very expensive. Upgrades are not seen very often in NYC, but I'd call or email and plead your case/negotiate.

For the future please book through our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate bookings.

Enjoy your stay.

Hi!

I've stayed in this hotel at least 5 or 6 times.

The staff is very nice.

They have a pool which is rare in Manhattan.

The rooms start at about 30th floor and you'll enjoy a wonderful view of either East river or Empire State Building.

For getting around: Buy a weekly Metro pass and take the bus 42 that runs 42nd street, you'll get right to Grand Central etc.

And you are across the street from United Nations.

170$ is a very good deal.

Don't worry!

thank you very much for your response and for the information.

I have few questions if its ok -

1. did you ever stay in the east tower (the old one), how was it? should I upgrade to the west tower in any condition? some reviews about the east tower are very bad.

2. which view is nicer - east river or Manhattan skyline?

3. can we walk to times square by foot?

thanks a lot!
