Scoobdriver Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 Hi, I'm looking for bidding strategy help. Iv'e visited NY before but my girlfriend hasn't.. would prefer to stay out of the really busy tourist areas (Time Square?) we enjoy checking out small coffee shops, good eats and bars .. Stay is between 20th-23rd August Looking for 4* or above for $150-170 per night (is this reasonable) Areas we are considering are Downtown - Financial District Lower East SideSoHo - TribecaGreenwich VillageChelsea AreaUnion Square - East Village What would be the best way to go about this ? do we need to narrow it down more? and local advice would be great, my memory is terrible.. I seem to remember really enjoying the bars around meatpacking and GV , bleaker etc. Thanks in advance..
thereuare Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 Welcome to BetterBidding! The 'downtown' area (it's not one usually chosen by the typical tourist as it's usually a little less convenient then midtown (by may be OK for you since you're looking for something non-touristy) and the area can get pretty quiet at nite (especially on the weekends). Assuming you're comfortable with the Downtown area (and in particular the Holiday Inn Manhattan Financial District as i think this may be one of the more likely outcomes when bidding) you can bid as follows: When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 4* DT, LES, Union Square... Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Soho, GV, Chelsea... Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* DT, LES, Soho, GV, Chelsea... Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $140 Any questions feel free to ask (especially confirming your re-bid zones if you're new to the subject) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Scoobdriver Posted July 21, 2015 Author Report Posted July 21, 2015 Awesome Thanks thereuare ! We were actually toying with DT Financial District, If we took this one out, would the plan look the same, Would I just substitute it for something else, or is it not that straight forward ?We just came back from London were the financial area in London, which was a little too quiet to the point of local convenience stores not opening at the weekend, Mark
thereuare Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 Usually you would need to revise the strategy, but the way presented you can simply remove DT from the bidding if you wanted to exclude this from your bidding. HOWEVER, you may need to increase your budget a little closer to the $150 area if excluding the Downtown zone. There will certainly be retail stores open in the Financial District, as well as bars and restaurants (maybe 20% will be closed)... but things like banks, barber shops (which mostly cater to the Wall St. crowd) will be closed. Also, in midtown you can usually find a convenience store (ie- bodega) open 24/7 within a 2 block radius... downtown is may be a 3-5 block radius (so there is still activity, but it's just a little more spread out). I will add that i'm seeing what looks to be the 4.5* Omni Berkshire Place in the MTE zone for $161/nite, if you have an interest in this property. Let us know if you'd like a revised strategy OR how it goes if you try the one above. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Scoobdriver Posted July 21, 2015 Author Report Posted July 21, 2015 Wow the Omni looks a steal.. I stayed at the barclay once and I believe that is not too far ? how would I get the Omni ? and thanks for an offer of a revised strategy that would be great (although if the girlfriend agrees we will probably go for the Omni ,, :) ) Thanks once again !!
thereuare Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 If you search PL express for your dates there is a 4.5* hotel in the MTE zone for $162/nite and an 8.0+ user review rating with: Pets Allowed Business Center Restaurant Fitness Center ... best guess for this one would be the Omni Berkshire. Scoobdriver Posted July 22, 2015 Author Report Posted July 22, 2015 your a star , thank you will let you know how I get on..
Scoobdriver Posted July 24, 2015 Author Report Posted July 24, 2015 Tried the plan, and was unsucessful, perhaps I was unrealistic with my pricing.
thereuare Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Your budget is realistic... you just bid too late. Although you posted your bidding range to be $150-$180, we stopped at $153/nite as there was a PRICELINE EXPRESS offer available at $156/nite... but this is now gone. Currently there is this (confirm all dates on the landing pages) 4* LES hotel for $161/nite (Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center) believed to be the Holiday Inn NYC - Lower East Side which is still well within your budget. HOTWIRE also has what looks like the St. Giles - The Tuscany for $176/nite (in the ESB zone, not included in your bidding above, but this hotel gets very good reviews) Any interest in either of the above... or do you want to repeat your bidding above with a $160 maximum bid? Scoobdriver Posted July 24, 2015 Author Report Posted July 24, 2015 Does <dead link removed> look like the hyatt or the lexington ? could it be anything else ?
thereuare Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Please don't link to search results like you did as the links will break in a few hours and future readers of this thread won't know what property it is that you were referring to. For help with this PRICELINE EXPRESS offer please post the star rating, zone, room rate per nite, dates of your stay (if different from above), and the amenities that are associated with the hotel... we will then have a look at the offer and offer our best guess. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Thanks. AaronJB Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 The Lexington, W, Grand Hyatt and Marriott East Side has been seen with this amenity set previously. I'd certainly lean towards the W being most likely, but it may be one of the others. Please keep us updated with what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions.
