limtedd Posted July 20, 2015 Report Posted July 20, 2015 Hi guys, Newbie here. This is my first thread. Going to NY for the first time with mom and sister on Aug 21-24. Want to stay in Times Square since I believe this is where all the actions are. Looking for an affordable stay. Able to spend max total $600 (including tax and resort fees) for three nights, but want at least 4* hotel, or even 4.5* if possible. However, when I take a look at PL express deal today, there is a very good deal for 3* Times Square Hotel for just $122/night, or comes out around $470/3 nights. PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for 4* TS is $685, which is way above our budgets. Do you think I should just purchased the 3* hotel via express deal, or bargain more via bidding? The price is cheap but I'm afraid the quality is not good. After quick lookup, the worst rated hotel is TRYP by Windham. I believe there is high chance I will get that hotel, since Priceline says no restaurant in the hotel, which is exactly the case. Is it possible to get DoubleTree or Westin or W hotel for $600/3nights through bidding? Thank you and looking to hear your kind advice.
AaronJB Posted July 20, 2015 Report Posted July 20, 2015 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Times Square is generally the most "well-known" zone, but it's really also the most expensive (usually) and hectic area. Other areas in nearby Midtown (such as MTE, MSG) are just fine and often somewhat cheaper. The issue in this case is that if you have more than 2 people, I would suggest not bidding (which will likely result in one bed in NYC) and instead looking for a Hot.wire listing (and indicating how many people are in the party - indicating more than 2 should result in some form of bedding for the entire party) or looking for a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal with a bed choice option. Does the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal you mention indicate bed choice? thereuare Posted July 20, 2015 Report Posted July 20, 2015 I will add to the above that you will spend far less time in Times Square then you think. ... and please read your messages before replying. limtedd Posted July 21, 2015 Author Report Posted July 21, 2015 Thank you for your reply. Yes, I agree that staying in Times Square is not a must. But when I look at similar areas, the hotel price is very similar to Times Square. For example : Hilton Garden Inn West 35th Street (which is a 3* hotel) is priced quite similarly to Westin Times Square / Sheraton. Hence, due to the similar price I think the choice is to stay there. Can I ask about ROW NYC Hotel? The price seems reasonable, but I guess the room is small? As for the bedding, I'm totally prepared to sleep on the sofa / even floor if needed. What do you guys think about bidding for 4* (or even 4.5*) NY Hotel? Is $600 all inclusive a reasonable / attainable price based on your experience? Thanks

Can I ask about ROW NYC Hotel? The price seems reasonable, but I guess the room is small?Again, what is the price? Is this a 'regular' rate or something thru PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE? What do you guys think about bidding for 4* (or even 4.5*) NY Hotel? Is $600 all inclusive a reasonable / attainable price based on your experience? If including other zones besides Times Square (such as MTE) then i think you have a good chance at a 4.5* hotel... if only bidding Times Square then you have a chance at $200 all-in, although it may require another ~$20 per nite to be successful for a 4* (i don't think your budget is enough for a 4.5* in Times Square) Let us know the information above and/or any additional thoughts you have based upon the information provided and we'll take it from there.
