Welcome to BetterBidding :)

No, I don't believe this is the Millennium Knickerbocker.

Best guess would be Public Chicago.

Rates on these dates are expensive, but if you do go with the Public, a few notes:

1. This is at the very tip-top of the zone. It is a pleasant (especially in the Fall) walk to the top end of Michigan Ave and the Gold Coast area that this hotel is in is great, with a lot of restaurants and nightlife. A big benefit is that there is a subway a few blocks away at Clark and Division.

2. Pleasant walk up to Lincoln Park Zoo/Old Town (bit of a trek, but not bad - you go through a VERY nice residential area in the Gold Coast.)

3. The Public used to be the Ambassador East, which was a very historic property with an especially historic restaurant that attracted many visiting celebs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pump_Room,_Chicago). It was closed and redone as the Public, by famed hotel operator Ian Schrager - this is the first of what is likely going to be a chain.

4. I stayed at the Public when it was the AE and visually, it's a terrific revamp of the property. I mean, it's a whole different hotel from the look of it. Some of the structural issues (old elevator) were fixed, but the core of the building is older so walls are still a bit thin.

5. The Public bills itself as a "boutique for everyone" (concept discussion: http://www.publichotels.com/chicago/about-us/the-idea/) and it does a nice job of that - I thought the service was great and liked that wifi is free and other things like room service are cheaper than the norm.

Overall, the Public is a nice property - it doesn't have tons of amenities and the core building is still older, but great service and they did a nice job modernizing the hotel as much as possible. The location is not central, but it's certainly very nice and convenient to subway.

The one big benefit to the location is that it's in the middle of a residential area - the Gold Coast restaurants and nightlife are a couple of blocks South. So, this is probably the hotel with the least chance of much street noise (especially on higher levels), given where it is.

I'm very familiar with the area and if you let me know what you are looking for in terms of hotels and desired max budget, I'd be happy to suggest other options, but rates are on the high side for these dates. This is a longer stay, so you may or may not benefit price-wise from breaking the stay up into two separate hotels.

Thank you Aaron and yellowdog for your recommendations.

I'm going to a convention(~30000 people, October 17-21), probably the prices will remain high.I really don't need something fancy, just some place comfortable and not so far away from McCormick place. I could spend up to $200 per night, however I would prefer something cheaper in order to have more money to go a some city attractions.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing many other options. PRICELINE EXPRESS is more expensive when looking at the dates as a whole and when splitting the dates via HOTWIRE or PRICELINE, rates are similar on average. Are you seeing any other listings of interest?
