Hello Everyone,

I'm new to Priceline bidding and need some assistance. I've read the tips and tricks on how to bid and I would like to know what are the areas of Miami that do not have 4* hotels. I'm looking to book a 4* hotel in South Beach and I want to get in as many bids as I can, so I want to know what areas could I use if my initial bid doesn't go through.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages (which will also remove the red box at the top of the page and make the board easier to navigate)

To determine your re-bid zones, start with the following...

1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter your city and dates, and click "GO".

2) List each zone that is offered in this region.

3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.

4) post your findings and we'll take it from there

If you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further.

Once you have your re-bid zones confirmed, if you let us know the dates of your stay, your maximum bid, and acceptable zone(s) we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Ok I think I understand what to do from here. By going through and selecting all the zones I can find out what the highest star rating is for each zone. When I go to bid, I start out with my most desired zones. If I don't get it, I can re-bid again, and pick one of the zones that doesn't have the star rating I'm looking for. In my case, that would be a 4*. So for example, I can start out with South Beach Collins Ave, re-bid with another zone on South Beach, re-bid with the last zone on South Beach, and then re-bid with the zones that don't have 4* ratings (assuming that I don't get a deal with the first 3 bids). Is this the correct method?

Your understanding is correct.   But just to be totally safe, if you post the list of zones you believe are your Miami 4* re-bid zones, somebody here will double check.

But even after they are confirmed, you always need to check them just before a bidding session.  They change.

Highly recommended that you confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding if you're new to the subject.

Ok so we know that 3 areas of South Beach I would take. The zones that I found that don't have 4* are:

Aventura

Bay Harbor Islands

Homestead

Miami Lakes-Hialeah

North Miami

South Miami

Yes, you have your re-bid zones correct... but always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked.

If you let us know your maximum bid we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Thank you. I was looking to go no more than $120/nt. I believe I saw on Hot.wire a 4* for around $112/nt. Would I be able to get something cheaper than that through Price.line?

If you're seeing a 4* for $112 on  Hot.wire, I'd guess you're likely looking at $90-105 for a 4* in the same zone on Price.line, although nothing is guaranteed and certainly, I'd start lower first.

Also, what are your date/s of travel?

So I tried bidding up to $114 and got nothing. The prices on Hotwire tend to fluctuate between $110-$115. I'm thinking that I can test the waters over the next days and see if I can get anything better. My trip is in a week. Do the prices on Hotwire stay the same around within a few days of the trip or should I got ahead and book now?

If you're seeing a 4* on Hot.wire for $112, why not take that instead of bidding if $114 was not accepted? You have a week until your trip, it's pretty much "last minute" as hotels go - they likely have a good idea of traffic expectations for your dates.

The inventory and prices you see on HOTWIRE aren't fixed. It changes all the time.

What is the best price you're currently seeing? (and for what star rating and zone is that property located in)

Is your plan to continue bidding or look for something else on HOTWIRE?
