Shombolar Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 Help identifying Chicago 4.5* Loop -Theater District hotel Dates: Dec. 2-Dec. 6, 2015 Rate: $120 95% recommended Amenity set: - Pet friendly - Boutique hotel - Fitness center - Restaurant(s) - Business center - Self-service laundry - Internet access - In-room accessibility - Accessible bathroom — The only 4.5* hotels in the Loop-Theater District are the Monaco and the Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront. I realize that price is very good for either property, but was curious if anyone had an educated guess about which one this might be. And is it possible the Virgin Chicago has been upgraded to 4.5* from 4*? Thanks for any help. When I bid, I'll bid through the links on this site (the search was from the app on my phone).
AaronJB Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 The Monaco (which is a block or two from the Virgin) has been reported to the board with this amenity set previously so that would be my guess. Please keep us updated on what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

The deal is still there. According to the Hotwire's ranking page, there are only two 4.5* hotels in the Loop — the Wyndham Grand Chicago and the Monaco. From my experience, Hotwire is ranking the Wyndham too high by at least half a star — I think the Kimpton properties actually are nicer (and quieter). But here's the thing: the two 4.5* Loop hotels for my dates are $120 a night (normally $434) and $294 (normally $384). Quite a difference! So I'm trying to figure out which is the Wyndham and which is the Monaco. I realize $120 is a really great price, but I'd rather not stay at the Wyndham. Any guesses which is which? AaronJB Posted July 17, 2015 Report Posted July 17, 2015 Things can change, but: This amenity set: 4.5*, Loop, $290 Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly-- Has been seen previously with the Wyndham, so that would be my guess. 4.5* Loop $120 Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Pet Friendly-- This amenity set has been seen with the Monaco, so that would be my guess. Also, the "retail" price is a compilation of comparable rates for your dates in the same zone, so it should not be used as an indicator. Shombolar Posted July 17, 2015 Author Report Posted July 17, 2015 It was indeed the Monaco. $120 per night for the listed amenity set — a good price for this property. I purchased using the HOTWIRE link above. Thank you for the advice, Aaron.
