Gran patriarca Posted June 26, 2015 Report Posted June 26, 2015 Hello, I am finding a few Express deals in Rome have a hotel fee of USD 6 per person per night. Is it a fee most hotels charge? perhaps as a tax to tourism? I am looking at a 4* hotel in Spanish steps.Price in PRICELINE EXPRESS: $79Dates August 22th to August 27th.Amenities: Free internet, bed choice available.Guest rating: 7+ Can you take your best guess?Regards.
thereuare Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 I'm not certain, but the Hotel Memphis would be my best guess for this one. If you are interested in this property, and since this an extended stay, you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'. If you're happy with the results purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay. Romelle Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 I've seen that described as a "city tax". It seems pretty common for European hotels. This reference indicates it will be 6 Euro, rather than $6. Romelle
thereuare Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 If you look at the bottom of the page of the PRICELINE EXPRESS OFFER you'll see: Mandatory Fee: This hotel charges an additional $6 per person per night. This fee will be charged to you directly by the hotel. Mandatory fees are not optional and typically cover items such as resort fees, energy charges or safe fees. The amount of the charge is subject to change.[*/]Effective January 1, 2011, Rome, Italy will impose a new City Tax of €2.00 - €3.00 per person, per night (maximum of 10 nights). The law requires that hotels collect this tax directly from guests upon check-out. The tax amount, subject to change, will vary by hotel depending upon the star rating assigned by the Italian government, which may vary from the star rating assigned by PRICELINE.com.I can't say for certain, but my guess is that these are likely the same fee. Gran patriarca Posted July 7, 2015 Author Report Posted July 7, 2015 I finally got a "deal" by bidding.I am disappointed with this deal. Hosianum Palace guest house has a 6.4/10 rating. I did not have this property on my radar as I was bidding for a 4* hotel in Piazza Navona or Spanish Steps areas.Started bidding $70, after a few tries I reached $78.I truly believe Priceline should hold itself to higher standards and not allow lowly ranked properties to compete for bid rooms.
yellowdog Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Thank you for sharing your result with the board. Also thanx for the addition for this new property to the BetterBidding Priceline Hotel List Sorry to see that you don't like the outcome. Let's hope the hotel exceeds your expectations. Enjoy your stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Yellowdog.
Gran patriarca Posted October 3, 2015 Author Report Posted October 3, 2015 As a follow up. I was greatly satisfied with this property. The location is amazing, 1 minutes from Altare della Patria, very close to the Collosseum, also 10 min. from the Pantheon. The rooms are comfortable. Breakfast is good, and the staff is very helpful and attentive (e.g. They arranged a taxi pick-up service to the airport at 4:30 am and had snacks packed for us).Regards.
AaronJB Posted October 4, 2015 Report Posted October 4, 2015 Thank you for the follow-up review. Glad to hear that this was an enjoyable stay.
