Hotwire Hotel: Chicago hotel help

We are going to be staying in Chicago at the end of July (28-31), flying into MDW, but thinking we won't rent a car. Our primary activity will be finally seeing a Cubs game and probably hanging out, doing dinner, shopping, etc. We would like to stay close to Wrigley, but it doesn't have to be next door and are willing to take transit for a better area.  It has been 10+ years since I have been so I am not familiar with all the little sub areas.

We are generally Starwood people, but have been looking around on hotwire and are overwhelmed with the number of options.

Any help and direction would be appreciated.

Thanks- Mark

Please provide a follow-up for your prior Lake Tahoe Hotwire thread (post what you decided for that stay within that thread, then reply to this thread.)

As for the above stay:

1. There's really very little in the way of hotels in Lakeview/Lincoln Park near Wrigley. Given the concentration of hotels downtown, those are often more heavily discounted.

2. The Red Line up to Wrigley is pretty much the way that people go to the game - parking near Wrigley is ridiculous and taxi is unnecessary. That said, given the amount of people who do take the L, I'd suggest going early. The nice thing about the area around Wrigley is that it's a very nice neighborhood with restaurants and shops - if you get there early, it's a pleasant area to browse around.

3. What would be your desired budget per night/star rating for this stay?

We are up to staying anywhere doesn't have to be next to Wrigley and thanks for the tip about taking the L early.

I think our price point is up to $250 per night, but we hope to be spending time exploring the city and not hanging out too much in the hotel.

Cheapest option on Hot.wire (you may see a slightly different price)

$132, 4* Mag Mile-RN Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Wheelchair Accessible, Roll-in Shower.

-- Likely the Hotel Felix. This property does have small rooms and gets rather mixed reviews, but you can't beat the location which is right by a ton of restaurants in River North.

I'm also seeing

4.5* Downtown-MP-GP $168 Boutique, Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Wheelchair Accessible, Pet Friendly

-- Not yet ID'd/reported to the board, but I'm guessing either a new amenity set for the Radisson Blu or Swissotel

4.5* Mag Mile-N WT $168 Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Busines

-- Hyatt Mag Mile (on St Clair) is likely.

4.5* Loop $180 Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly

-- Wyndham Grand Riverfront likely.

On PRICELINE EXPRESS:

4.5* River North-NMA Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Fitness Center $177.

-- This listing has not yet been ID'd/reported, but I would guess the Thompson is a possibility - if so, that would be a great result.

4.5* DOwntown-Loop-GP $167 Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center

-- Would be a possible match for the Radisson Blu

Would any of the above options be of interest? Overall, I think you have a number of pretty nice options under $200.

So I have been delayed in trying to book.  Any ideas what they Magnificent Mile North - Water Tower area hotel @$171 a night would be and is this in a good location?

Also, any other thoughts on what is still available especially in a Westin type hotel?

Thanks for all of your help.

You may see slightly different prices:

$182, 4.5* Loop Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly

-- Likely Wyndham Grand Riverfront

$166 4.5 Mag Mile-RN Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly

-- Likely James

$168 4.5* Mag Mile N-WT Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business

-- likely Hyatt on St Clair

$192 4* Mag Mile-RN Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Spa

-- Likely Godfrey - I quite liked my stay at this property, but a significant warning would be to call ahead and try to negotiate a room on a higher floor. There is a bar with a retractable roof on a lower floor.

Would any of these possibilities be of interest?
