Hey guys,

Trying to figure out how this whole PRICELINE/HOTWIRE thing works and it seems kind of complicated.

I would say my budget is up to ~200 a night pre tax, although I am moreso looking for a good deal rather than for a particular price point.

I would prefer to stay anywhere Chelsea or south of there.  (so priceline map 3, 5 6 8 11 17 19), but would also be willing to stay pretty much anywhere south of central park.

best deals I have seen were Travelocity 5* for 189 in financial distrcit (looks to be conrad.  its been going up and down in price for the past day), and I am probably leaning more towards (whatever) 4* midtown for 129.

I was going to just go ahead and book the Travelocity 129 deal, but figured I would investigate priceline's deals and see if i can get something better.  So basically the two ways to beat travelocity would be either a 4 star hotel for under 129, or a really cool hotel for anything up to 200ish Conrad just didnt seem all that cool.  They have all these pictures of a beautiful view of the hudson river, which you wouldnt get because they have the rooms seperated by side.

Also, although I would certainly accept a simple answer of best suggested deal, I would be intrigued by how you reached your conclusion as well, because I cant quite understand how to even go about figuring what travelocity has to offer.

Thanks

-Tom

Edit, sorry, I forgot to put the dates, this is for 3 nights, July 2nd-5th

Welcome to BetterBidding! (and sorry for the delay in replying)

If you decide to go with travelocity, please note that we are an affiliate and please use our Travelocity link for your purchase.

HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $118/nite (your price may differ by a few dollars) with:

Boutique

Fitness

Restaurant

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

Blind Accessible

Deaf Accessible

Travel Accessible

Room Accessible

Bathroom Accessible

Roll-in Shower

... best guess here would be The Lexington New York City

You could try bidding on PRICELINE to beat this rate, but you then need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you include in your bidding, with no ability to guess beforehand what it is that you may receive.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed (or how it goes if you take the HOTWIRE offer above) and we'll take it from there.

Hmm.  I think what I will do is put a bid in for a 5 star hotel at a minimum price i could possibly get, and if i dont get that, ill proceed by just booking one of the 115-130ish 4 star deals from hotwire or wherever such as the one you suggested.

any suggestions on bid amount? considering ive already seen 185 listed, 150 maybe?  I dont know how much lower I can go and still have a possibility of success.  I dont need a high chance of success, because I am perfectly happy with a 115-130ish backup plan.

I could also bid a higher amount in a different district that might have a nicer 5 star?  I am not that familiar with the other hotels, but would have probably been willing to pay the 185 or even a bit more for the ritz carlton which is also in the financial district, for example, but im not as familiar with the other hotels in lower manhattan.

Thanks

I dont know if names or numbers is preferred but Preferred areas are 3, 5 8 11 17 19  (Chelsea, Financial, Greenwich, Lower East Side, SoHo/Tribeca, union square/east villiage).  Slightly less preferred but wholly acceptable areas are 2, 6, 9, 12, 13, 14, 18 (Central park south, empire state building, Hells Kitchen, Madison square garden convention center, Madison square garden east, Madison square garden west, Times Square).

my max bid is 200.

If you let us know the zones you're willing to accept, by PRICELINE name...

Please use zone names as the numbers will change any time that PRICELINE adds, removes, or changes the name of a zone.

Slightly less preferred but wholly acceptable...

So should we include these 'less favorable but perfectly acceptable' zones in your bidding from the onset? Is the ultimate goal the lowest price?

Please confirm the above (if we should include the 'secondary' zones) and we will advise accordingly.

the ultimate goal is a cool 5 star hotel under 200 dollars.  I guess the less preferred areas would be less cool, although i would of course be more than happy to stay at the st regis or something.

I'm still not sure what to include in a bidding strategy.

Specifically,

So should we include these 'less favorable but perfectly acceptable' zones in your bidding from the onset?
