ask4fish Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 I have been unsuccessful after several attempts to get a 4* in the Boston/Logan Airport area for the evening of 6/8/06.I have bid up to $125 with no luck. I checked the events and found out this is "Pride Week" in Boston with an attendance of 400,000 last year. Hilton's web site shows a rate of $229. Embassy Suites best rate was $179 last week and is now $227 this week. Hilton's web site also shows several of their Boston hotels unavailable that evening. Is it possible that Priceline has no inventory to offer for this date? I would like to stay near the airport, but don't want to pay $229+tax to do so.
thereuare Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Welcome to BetterBidding!Think of this from the hotel's perspective: With 400K people coming to town, there will be little vacancy, and they can sell most of their rooms themselves... why give rooms to the opaque suppliers at rock bottom prices if they can get full rate for them?If the hotels find they're not filling rooms up as quickly as they thought, they may release inventory to the opaque providers as the date draws closer; but the risk is that the opposite is true and they sell out completely (and not even offer expensive rooms themselves).Have you thought about lowering to a 3* property? Looking on Hotwire there are some 3* and 3.5* properties which you can probably identify in the low $100's. ask4fish Posted January 11, 2006 Author Report Posted January 11, 2006 Thanks. That's what I suspected. I was hoping to be as close to the airport as possible, but that's not looking like a realistic goal. I'll either have to bite the bullet and pay $250, or end up 5 miles out.
ask4fish Posted January 11, 2006 Author Report Posted January 11, 2006 $101 for one night, $118 total with tax. Amenities: Shuttle, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Business, Laundry. Thanks for your help in the Priceline forum.I got tired after a month of trying with Priceline (tried both 3* and 4* up to $125 and got nothing.) I have no doubt the price was higher because this is in the midst of "Pride Week".I booked through the SavingsBarn link.
thereuare Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 I'm sure of it... higher demand typically means higher rates for the opaques and non-opaques alike.Glad you found something whin your budget and which satisifies your needs. Thanks for using the HOTWIRE links at SavingsBarn.com... enjoy your stay.
