jiller Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 I'm trying to book a hotel downtown in the North Michigan Ave - River North area for two nights - 7/5/15 - 7/7/15. Here's my priceline history so far: Try #1 - N. Michigan/River north area - 5* and 4.5*, $100/night rejected Try #2 -Added Lincoln park area, $115/night rejected Try #3 - Added Oak Park area, $130/night rejected Try #4 - Added Hyde park area, $135/night rejected We really want to stay in North Michigan Ave and I'm hoping for under $150/night. I'd love to stay in 4.5-5* but would be willing to go to 4* if the others just aren't possible. Thoughts?
thereuare Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 Welcome to BetterBidding! I don't think you're budget is doing to be enough for a 4.5* or 5* hotel as i think you would likely need to be in the $175-$195 range to be successful. However, at current rates even a 4* may be a stretch, as it think you will need to somewhere in the $150-$175 range. Did you first want to try further for a 4.5* and/or 5* (and if so please confirm your maximum bid) or are you ready to try for a 4* property? (and if so please confirm your maximum bid for a 4 star property) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. jiller Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Posted June 12, 2015 I can try for 4*. I was just hoping I'd get lucky with a much nicer property :) I would just like to keep it under $200/night for the nicest property I can. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 I can try for 4*. I was just hoping I'd get lucky with a much nicer property :) I would just like to keep it under $200/night for the nicest property I can. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! The 4.5* properties North and South of the river are all - in my opinion, at least - all quite nice. The 4* properties are a bit more of a mix - there are some very nice properties at the 4* level in both downtown zones on Price.line, but there are a few that are possible that I think are lesser options (the Allerton in the River North-NMA area is one example.) I see a number of options around or mildly under your desired budget, including what may be the Virgin or W City Center for $189 and the Hyatt Mag Mile on St Clair for $199. Would either of these be of interest? Are you looking for something in particular in terms of hotel? jiller Posted June 12, 2015 Author Report Posted June 12, 2015 Something along the lines of the W would be great. I've stayed at both the Conrad and Sheraton before through Priceline and definitely liked the Conrad more. I agree with the mixed hotels in the 4* category which was why I was hesitant to try it at first, but if demand is high, then it is what it is. This is a getaway for a few days with my boyfriend after he (lovingly) attends my family reunion with me, so I was just hoping for something a bit more special for us. I would like to stay under $200/night though. I'm fine with staying anywhere in River N or the Loop area. We just want to be right downtown since we will be out in the 'burbs for a few days beforehand for the family reunion. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 I'm seeing (and you may see slightly different prices) 4.5* Mag Mile-WT $199 Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business-- Likely Hyatt Mag Mile (on St Clair 4* Loop $184 Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Spa-- Possible match for the W City Center or Virgin 4* Mag Mile-RN $193 Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Spa-- Likely Godfrey. I really enjoyed my stay at this property, but I was lucky enough to get a room on the top floor. There is a bar/club on the 4th floor with a retractable roof and there have been complaints about noise from surrounding rooms on Yelp and Tripadvisor. Great location in River North but again, I wouldn't want to get a room right above that club/bar. Please keep us updated on what you decide and let us know if you have any city or hotel questions. Also, let us know if you need a hotel in the 'burbs - I'm very familiar with the area and would be happy to offer suggestions. jiller Posted June 13, 2015 Author Report Posted June 13, 2015 Thanks so much! I will look again a little later today. Question though - when you say you are seeing these deals - is that through the PRICELINE EXPRESS deals? I have only been trying Name Your Own Price right now, as well as Hot.wire, but maybe I should try the Express deals. Sorry for all of the questions! I'm fairly new to this :)
AaronJB Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 The above options where showing when I searched via HOTWIRE yesterday. Thank you for keeping us updated and please let us know if you have any additional questions. jiller Posted June 13, 2015 Author Report Posted June 13, 2015 Thanks! I tried your Hotwire link and am also likely seeing the same Hyatt property for $198/night. Here are a few other options that came up: 4* - Chicago Loop Theater District - $148/night, 85% recommended - I'm thinking Hotel Allegro?Boutique hotel Business center Fitness center Internet access Pet friendly Restaurant(s) Spa servicesAccessibility Accessible bathroom Roll-in shower 4* - Mag Mile, River North - $169/night, 80% recommended - I feel like this could be any of them??Boutique hotel Business center Fitness center Internet access Restaurant(s)Accessibility Accessible for visually impaired Accessible for hearing impaired Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Any thoughts on those? Sorry for all of the questions :) I don't know how you narrow these hotels down, it seems like they are all so similar!
AaronJB Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Please include all amenities - you may need to click on the listing, click on "book now" and then click on "see all amenities". I'm seeing (and you may see a slightly different price): 4* Loop Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly $150.-- Likely Allegro. Not a great location, nice Kimpton property. If you're going to be out later at night, I wouldn't stay here. 4* River North-NMA Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Wheelchair Accessible, Roll-in Shower $168-- Likely Felix. Great location, small rooms and very mixed reviews. 4* Loop $183 Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Spa-- Likely Virgin or W City Center, given some of the information I'd lean towards the former but the latter is certainly possible. I see the Godfrey for $187 regular rate on expedia for a special daily deal for these dates. I had a great stay at this property a couple of months ago staying in a suite via PRICELINE EXPRESS, but - and this is a big note - there is a club/bar on the 4th floor of this property with a retractable roof. I wouldn't want to be in a room anywhere near that as there have been complaints about noise on Yelp and tripadvisor, although especially the former. That said, if I could get a high floor room here (call ahead and say you're a light sleeper and want a higher floor) I'd stay here again happily. It's a great location in River North and I thought it was a very nice, newish property. Please use the site's Expedia link to start your purchase if you go this route. jiller Posted June 14, 2015 Author Report Posted June 14, 2015 Thank you so much for your help! I went through your Hotwire link and ended up with the Virgin Hotels Chicago. It was 4* for $184 with amenities listed as Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, and Spa. Very happy with how it ended up. The Virgin Hotels property looks very cool, so I'm excited. Thanks again!
yellowdog Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 Congratulations on your success! Thanks for using the HOTWIRE links on the board. Good to see that you're happy with the outcome. Can you please confirm if you have Hi-Speed Internet among you amenities. You can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.Enjoy your stay.Yellowdog.
AaronJB Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 Glad to hear it was the Virgin, which opened a few months back and is in a better location than the W. The amenities matched the W City Center or Virgin - while both are nice hotels, the 5/5 location suggested to me the Virgin was more likely than the W.Certainly an easy walk from the Virgin to River North restaurants. Let me know if you have any city questions. jiller Posted June 14, 2015 Author Report Posted June 14, 2015 I did go back and double check, and Hi-Speed Internet is not listed specifically. The amenities listed under my reservation are as follows: Free Internet Internet Access Fitness Center Spa Services Restaurant(s) Thanks so much!
AaronJB Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 For the board Hi-Speed Internet = Internet Access Thank you for the follow-up. Enjoy your stay.
