I have drawn a line around the guaranteed area using Google Maps. It is quite carefully done, so I hope it will be useful to others. I have also identified (in separate layers, so it is easy to filter) expedia's 4 and 5 star hotels that are within the boundary. Any insight on how closely the expedia and hotwire stars correlate? Map here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z0111vql6Cn4.kN__8rXbE3uk&usp=sharing Anyone else have experience w/ 5* in this area? Something I am unfamiliar with concerning the hotwire amenities... What qualifies as 'pet friendly?' For example, the rosewood mayakoba is the the area, and does allow pets, but only up to 10 lbs, which is a pretty serious restriction.

ahakso Posted June 4, 2015 Author Report Posted June 4, 2015 My newb mistake: August 4, 2015 to August 8, 2015
thereuare Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links. If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above? Using this method, below is the full list of amenities i'm seeing for the 5 star hotel in this zone when searching for your dates: Pet Friendly Business Hi-Speed Internet Spa Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ... if this is what you're seeing, The Fairmont Mayakoba would be my best guess for this one, although the Fairmont Mayakoba Riviera Maya as a distant secondary guess can't be ruled out as a possibility. Since this an extended stay you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'. If you're happy with the results purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay. ahakso Posted June 4, 2015 Author Report Posted June 4, 2015 Thanks; by using the bidding helper tool, I found that I had indeed missed the roll-in shower amenity. I would have guessed that by attempting to 'look behind the curtain' in the described manner I would risk getting two different hotels. Is that very unlikely? Also, this price is not a huge discount if it is indeed the fairmont mayakoba... after taxes and fees it is ~$292/night, rather than $310/night through expedia. Do you have any intuition as to whether or not it would be wiser to wait, hoping the priceline price for the area will drop?
thereuare Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 ...you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. The idea is to fist do a search for both legs of your trip and see if the same hotel appears for each search (based upon the star rating, complete amenity set, user review rating information (such as 4/5 cleanliness, 4.5/5.0 location, etc, etc). If all the 'known' information is the same, this increases your chances/likelihood that it's the same hotel. There is always the chance that there are two hotels with the same exact information, or after you make the first purchase the hotel no longer appears for the remaining nites, etc... so there is some risk, but you accept this risk in exchange for the advantage of 'looking behind the curtain' with the first purchase. ahakso Posted June 4, 2015 Author Report Posted June 4, 2015 I ended up not going that route because doing only 1 night on either end was ~$70 more on a per night base price basis. In this case, not worth the cost. I believe this is still the appropriate thread, as the specific area, dates and star rating are the same... Now I am considering the all inclusive option, as internet/parking etc adds up. FULL AMENITIES: Free parking, Free breakfast, Free Internet, Suite, Beachfront hotel, Free food and drinks, Free premium drinks, A la carte dining, Indoor pool(s), Free water activities, Smoke-free rooms, Free entertainment, Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Internet access, Golf nearby, Spa services Also 5 star, also aug 4-aug 8 2015. $270/night base price Thoughts on this one?
thereuare Posted June 5, 2015 Report Posted June 5, 2015 I don't have much insight into this all-inclusive property... Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun or the Blue Diamond Riviera Maya would be be a possibility, but there could be other possibilities as well. As with the previous property, you could try the 'solo nite' to see if the costs are close and purchase one nite in order to gain more insight into this property. ahakso Posted June 5, 2015 Author Report Posted June 5, 2015 Thank you for all your help. You made a great impression and I will be sure to be back to contribute to this website using priceline/hotwire in the future. In this case, I ended up finding a low rate at the sketchy and poorly reviewed online booking site, and the Fairmont Mayakoba was willing to pricematch. This gave me $207/night, and they tossed in internet, saving $20/night. Although I didn't go with PRICELINE / HOTWIRE this time, I count this in the win column nonetheless, as their prices helped inform my search!
