lasik1 Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 I'm going to a business meeting for 4 nights- meeting is at the Loews O'Hare but I refuse to stay out by the airport when I am visiting a great city(I live on the nice, but small tropical island of Key West). No car as I will take the train daily. I visit Chicago about every 2 years and have always stayed in River North because its close to Gibson's and the wife likes the Mag Mile stroll. I want to stay elsewhere this solo trip, either the loop/theater district or Millennium/Grant Park areas. Budget is $175/night, interested in a nice local scene for walking at night, perhaps some jazz or blues, solid local dining. I will use Hot.wire and your link as I have done in the past- thanks.
AaronJB Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 If you want something wholly/completely different, there is a 4* in the Lakeview-Lincoln Park zone on Hot.wire for $135. Lincoln Park is a great neighborhood to the North of downtown, with some sights (LP Zoo, Old Town) and a lot of restaurants/shopping. It is geared more towards 20-30-somethings and is more boutique/local stores vs the big chains of downtown. The 4* LP-Lakeview is showing w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Deaf Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly. -- I'd guess this is a possible match for the Lincoln. The problem with this is that the Lincoln is not right by a CTA station. There is either one a trek South at Clark/Division or if you walk a fair trek West on Fullerton. You'd then have to take the Red Line South, then the Blue Line out to ORD. So if you have to get out to ORD, it's more of a journey than staying downtown. In the Loop area on Hot.wire, I'm seeing a 4* Loop w/Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Spa for $169.-- This would be a possible match for the Virgin Hotel, which has been seen with this amenity set previously (and is a newer hotel, which opened not that long ago.) Plus, if this is the Virgin, not far from River North/North Michigan Ave areas. There's really not much going on in the South or West portions of the Loop later at night. The Virgin would be a much more central location, convenient to transit. lasik1 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Report Posted June 6, 2015 BAM! BOOKED the Virgin Hotel at a great price using your HOTWIRE link. Thanks Aaron JB for the local mojo- let me know if you want any Key West info- 5 hotels here reopened/reopening recently after to the bones renovations.....
AaronJB Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 Congrats on your success. :) This is a terrific deal for this property, which is in a terrific location not far South of the river - and it just opened not that long ago. On top of it, if you need to go to ORD, easy to get to a Blue Line station from here. I'd be happy to offer restaurant recommendations - just let me know likes/dislikes. Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay.
