My husband and I are traveling to Chicago in 6/8-11 and planning to sightsee downtown Chicago mainly. We will be driving but don't want to spend too much time on road - less than 20 minutes will be fine from hotel to downtown.

Trying to keep it $200/night or less with taxes and fees (including parking fees) for 3.5-4* hotel.

Where would you recommend we stay in? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Thank you!

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

I'm quite familiar with the city and surrounding area. The issue with Chicago is that once you leave the city, there's really not that much if anything in terms of hotels until you get to the outlying areas. The North Burbs are quite nice, with the Ravinia Music Festival and the Chicago Botanic Garden (chicagobotanic.org), as well as a lot of restaurants and a fair amount of shopping. Plus, you can take the Metra train in instead of the CTA; I'd forget driving, no point.

I'm seeing a 4* for these dates in Northbrook for $95 (you may see a slightly different rate) on Hot.wire w/Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Golf, Free Parking, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Pet Friendly.

-- This is a possible match for the Sheraton Northbrook. Easy couple minute drive to the Metra station and at the end of a very nice mall with a Whole Foods at the other end.

At the 4*+ level downtown, Hot.wire is showing rates over $225, although with bidding you could possibly get something at or around the $200 level.

The problem with downtown is that you are looking around $30-35 per night + city tax for parking in garages or as much as $70 per night at hotels. The North suburban hotels are free parking.

Thank your for the kind and quick reply!!

However, I'm sorry to tell you that we changed our minds to not to drive.  We think it will save our money not to rent a car.  Rather, we would spend more money on hotel. Thus, we are looking for hotels which are convenient for public transportations and close to the downtown) or even situated in downtown area.  We want 3 to 4* hotel with $200/night or less including taxes and fees.

Could you kindly recommend hotels which are best for us? Thank you so much!!

We want 3 to 4* hotel with $200/night or less including taxes and fees.

What is your budget per nite before taxes/fees? Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* vs. a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this trip?

Let us know the above and we will advise accordingly.

I don't want to spend more than $160 per night before taxes and fees but if it's worth to spend a bit more ($15?) to grab quite a better hotel, I'm willing to pay.

What looks to be the Congress Plaza hotel is offered on HOTWIRE for $143/nite... this property is 3* rated by HOTWIRE, but only 2.5* rated by PRICELINE, and it gets somewhat poor reviews. However, i mention it since it is well within your budget.

If this is not acceptable, i think you can likely get a 3* in the Loop zone in the $145-$165 range OR a 3* in the River North zone in the $155-$175 range.

Let us know if you'd prefer the cheaper Congress Plaza or want to try for a 3* or better hotel on PRICELINE. If the latter, please confirm if the Loop zone and River North zone are both acceptable, as well as confirm your maximum bid... we will then suggest a strategy for you to follow.

I want to try for a 3* or better hotel on PRICE.LINE.  Loop zone and River North zone are both okay for me and my maximum bid is $180.

Thank you for help!!
