Priceline Hotel: Priceline Bidding Strategy

Approx $200 + tax looks doable for a 4*.

But please note that beachfront is not guaranteed when using PRICELINE.

If beachfront is a must is it better to look at HOTWIRE that usually list this as an amenity.

If you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive.

Please also let us know the zones you're willing to stay in if you decide to use PRICELINE or move forward with HOTWIRE.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll go from there

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

Just to add an example to this thread...

HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the Ka'anapali zone for $189/nite with (note there is also a Resort Fee to be paid directly to the hotel):

Free Parking

Resort

Pet Friendly

Beachfront

Smoke Free

Fitness

Pool

Restaurant

Business

Laundry

Hi-Speed Internet

Golf

Tennis

Spa

Childrens Activities

... best guess for this property would be The Westin Maui Resort and Spa. So you could take this offer if you want to try to target this property and ensure a Beachfront hotel, OR you could try bidding on PRICELINE for a price lower than this but you won't be assured of something directly on the beach.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

Hey guys! Thanks for the information. We would prefer a beach access, but it seems like the hotel charges for use of beach facilities in addition to the nightly fee and resort fee. Do these rates include taxes?

What would be a good price range for Priceline? If the price is significantly cheaper, we would be willing to take the risk of not getting a beachfront property.

In terms of location, we are not overly picky, but would prefer the west side. Is there an updated list of hotels available on priceline, so we can see the likelihood of getting a beachfront property?

You guys run a great and helpful website. Thanks for your help.

What beach facilities are you seeing that they charge extra for, as most are usually included in the resort fee.

To bid on PRICELINE, what would you consider to be 'significantly' cheaper (ie- how much would you be willing to bid to take the risk of a non-beachfront property)? If you want to go this route, let us know the zones you're willing to accept (by PRICELINE name) and your desired star rating and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

All hotels reported to the board are in the Priceline Hotel List (it is updated any time new information is reported to the board)

If you check your dates via PRICELINE EXPRESS and Hot.wire, you can get a good idea as to the price range for different areas and star levels.   Then when you've decided upon your target areas and star level you can post back here for some bidding strategy.  You already mentioned a max budget of about $200.  The strategy will take that into consideration.  As yellowdog mentioned, $200 looks doable.

When bidding Price.line, the bid rate doesn't include taxes, but they are shown on the last page before actually submitting the bid.  The resort fees are not included.  Hot.wire almost always shows them though.

In the header above is "Hotel Lists".  There you can see all hotels members have reported here as receiving via Priceline, Priceline Express and Hotwire.  It is updated continually as reports come in.

Usually one can do a bit better price-wise via Priceline bidding, but it is always good to know just what is possible via Priceline Express and Hotwire so one doesn't bid over that.

If it works out to be around 30/40 dollars cheaper per night, we would be willing to take the risk of not getting a beachfront property.

Our top priority for location would be Lahaina but we will also be open to Wailea-Makena. We would be open to a 4 star, 4 1/2 star or 5 star hotel.

For Westin, there seem to be extra charges to use their beach chairs and umbrella facilities on their beach.

We need specific information to suggest a bidding strategy for you to follow...

What star rating do you want to try for first? Do you want to only start with Lahaina or also include Wailea-Makena from the onset? What is the maximum bid amount at the first star rating you want to try for?

Hey

Looks like Lahaina only has 4 star deluxe option according to priceline name your own price option. We would like to only start with Lahaina. If we go up to $20 more than our starting bid, we are good with adding in Wailea (which has a 5 star and a 4.5 star option). The current best rate I am seeing on both express and hotwire is 190, so we would only want to go up to potentially $150 prior to taxes as our max bid in our first star rating.

Thanks

When bidding 4* in Maui you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Lahaina...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 4* Lahaina and re-bid zone2...

Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $150

If the above is rejected and you then want to consider Wailea as well, you can do the following:

Select 4* Wailea...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 4* Wailea and re-bid zone2...

Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

If the above is rejected and are then willing to try up to $170 i would try:

Select 4* Lahaina and Wailea...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 4* Lahaina and Wailea and re-bid zone2...
