Interesting aside: I bid $28 for a 2.5-star got denied and PL said I could bid again if I added $7 to my bid.

Instead I bid $30 on a 3* - this too was denied but I then was told I could rebid if I changed my star level. So I then bid $30 on a 2.5* and got the Holiday Inn.

I'm glad to see you've been reading some of the tips here... trying to undercut counter-offers and not raising your bid when adding a lower star level.
