Jasmine Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 Thanks to some free re-bid zones and also having my travel partner bid, I was able to try the following bids... all unsuccessful.4* = $42, $44, $47, $49, $51, $53, $55, $573* = $47, $49, $532.5* = $38, $45 <-- got a message stating if I added $13 to my bid I could try again. I passed.I'm regretting leaving by bidding until so late now. I had been following the wins for this area for a couple months and I (stupidly) expected to easily win a 4* for $43 or so.I wonder if there is something going on there that week. I'm going to try again on Tuesday, bidding more for each zone. If that fails I may try splitting my bid (I wonder if Monday is the issue - I see another poster is having the same bad luck as me for that day). After that, I will consider other zones or maybe Hotwire.
thereuare Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 Did you check rates for the above dates at the two 4 star properties that have been reported in this zone?If you did, you'll see that the HILTON is sold-out for 2 of the 3 nites, while the HYATT is sold-out for 1 of the 3 nites. BEAV Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 How did we ever live without Internet search engines ???Electronic Imaging"2.5* = $38, $45 <-- got a message stating if I added $13 to my bid I could try again. I passed."Typically, that means you'll probably "score" by upping your bid by $6 or $7.
Jasmine Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 Typically, that means you'll probably "score" by upping your bid by $6 or $7.Wouldn't I have needed a free rebid zone to bid less? thereuare, thanks for the heads up. I hadn't thought to check :) Guess I will look at alternative areas.
thereuare Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 You can raise $6-$7 on your next bidding cycle... although you do indeed have one re-bid zone at the 2.5* level. Let us know if you need help figuring it out after you look again. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
BEAV Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Wouldn't I have needed a free rebid zone to bid less? Yes, that's correct. I wasn't sure how much experience you've had w/Priceline bidding and wanted to make sure you knew they will almost always accept less than their counteroffers.
Jasmine Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 Well, I decided to try for the San Jose area in addition to Sunnyvale/Santa Clara.3* San Jose @ $37 = rejected + Sunnyvale @ $38 = rejected2* San Jose @ $33 = acceptedYour Offer Price: $33.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $99.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $18.66 Total Charges: $117.66 Homestead Studio Suites San JoseHad a bad experience at a Homestead in NJ last month - hoping this one will be better!
