angelacogliano Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 Hi!First time posting and first time bidding on PRICELINE.Details of my trip:Manhattan, New York2 guestsJuly 1 - 5 (4 nights)Budget of $145USD a night3.5 Stars minimumWe are happy with any area on the island except Time Square as I understand it is very loud and busy and Harlem. We are particularly interested in Midtown East, Central Park, or Financial District area. But anywhere you think we can get a good value is fine with us!I appreciate any help you can provide with regards to strategies and areas to stay in. Even suggestions on budget, is it realistic?Thank you so so so much!Angela
thereuare Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 Welcome to BetterBidding! Your budget should be fine, although we will try to help you stick to the better zones, as i think you're current approach is too broad and you're willing to accept some zones which shouldn't be included and trying to avoid some zones which maybe should be included (at least included long before the zones you're not willing to accept) On PRICELINE EXPRESS i'm currently seeing what looks like the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel for $102/nite, which while not my favorite hotel in the city, is perfectly acceptable with a great location across the street from Penn Station (for easy subway access)... would this one work for your plans this trip? Let us know your thoughts on this property and we'll go from there. angelacogliano Posted April 27, 2015 Author Report Posted April 27, 2015 Hi! Thank you for the fast response and the tips. Yes that hotel is definitely fine with us. I did notice that an additional $25 USD/night will be added at time of check in for that hotel. I guess I should be keeping that in mind when I bid? Angela
thereuare Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 The deal i saw above was thru PRICELINE EXPRESS... did you want to try to target this specific property (thru PRICELINE EXPRESS) OR try bidding for a lower price? If bidding, there is no way to target this specific property and you could receive a different hotel in the zone(s) that you include in your bidding. If you want to move forward by bidding i would suggest the following zones: MSG MTW ESB ...and these with the following caveats: CPS - has the Hudson hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms, this would need to be an acceptable outcome if you include this zone in your bidding Cheslea - can be up to a 10 minute walk to the subway but a very 'hot' area at the moment with lots of cafes, restaurants, boutiques, clubs, etc. so it is still considered to be a very desirable and frequently bid area MTE - some hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway. Usually most include this zone, but given the cheap options for your dates, you may wish to exclude it just to ensure you're centrally located TS - you mention wanting to avoid, which i don't think is such an issue... odds favor you end up some place other than on Broadway and there is almost always an alternate entrance that will leave you on one of the side streets which is then easier to navigate from, but ultimately the choice is yours Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. angelacogliano Posted April 27, 2015 Author Report Posted April 27, 2015 Hi! I did see that deal in PRICELINE EXPRESS but with the added mandatory nightly fees, it is over my max budget.. I was hoping to stay within $580USD for the entire trip... Therefore, I assume bidding would be the best option for our low budget. I will look into the hotels listed and respond shortly. We are really not picky (and I don't think we can be with our budget). Thank you so much for your efforts and I will get back to you shortly. Angela

angelacogliano Posted April 28, 2015 Author Report Posted April 28, 2015 Hi! Thank you for all your help thus far. We are going to go with your suggestions and stick to MSG, MTW, & ESB. If these don't work out, we will try those with the caveats so CPS, Chelsea, MTE, & TS. We are okay with the issues you mentioned. So what would be our next step? I appreciate all your help!! Thanks, Angela
thereuare Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 So we don't suggest a strategy that goes higher than you're willing to pay, what is your maximum bid price (before taxes/fees)? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. angelacogliano Posted April 28, 2015 Author Report Posted April 28, 2015 Before taxes and fees, assuming that is about 20% of the subtotal, our max would be $125/US a night. We want to stay under $600/USD total, including taxes and fees. Is this doable? Thanks! Angela
thereuare Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 Although most NYC hotels don't have any resort fees, an increasing number do... so what if you bid up to $125/nite and land a hotel with a resort fee? For example, the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer previously discussed at $102/nite has a resort fee of ~$25/nite, which you stated wasn't an option as it would put you over your budget (at $608 all-in) Given the $102/nite Express deal, I would suggest that you limit your maximum bid to $100/nite to leave room for any possible resort fee (although such a fee could be more than $25/nite)... but i don't think there is going to be too much at this price point, and if $100 is rejected then you take the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer. angelacogliano Posted April 28, 2015 Author Report Posted April 28, 2015 That does sound like the best approach... Would you be able to identify a couple hotels for me on the priceline express page? I understand no guarantees so no pressure. 1) 3 Star Empire State Building for $119 Pets allowed Choose Bed Option - Double or Twin or Deluxe Room 2) 3 Star Hotel in Downtown - Financial District - $127 Internet Fitness Center Restaurant Business Centre
thereuare Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 The ESB property is like the Nh Jolly Hotel Madison Towers and that would be my guess for that one. The Downtown hotel is not only over your budget, but it also puts you less centrally located... my guess here would be the Holiday Inn New York City - Wall Street. thereuare Posted April 29, 2015 Report Posted April 29, 2015 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. Once you win a hotel, use the 'ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN' button on the lower right corner of the page to edit the topic title to reflect your win and to provide the details of your purchase. This helps keep the board better organized by reducing the number of unresolved threads that don't have any follow-up or conclusion. Best guess for the 3* ESB would be the Nh Jolly Hotel Madison Towers... my guess for the 4* Downtown would be the Club Quarters Wall Street. Neither of these would be my choice, i would sooner take the previously mentioned PRICELINE EXPRESS offer for the believed to be Wyndham New Yorker. angelacogliano Posted April 30, 2015 Author Report Posted April 30, 2015 Sorry about that! We went with your suggestion and booked the PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal and you were right! We got the Wynham New Yorker for $102/night, 4* Madison Gardens Area. Ameneties listed were pet friendly, non smoking, gym/spa, restaurant, and business centre. We are very happy with the location and price and the hotel looks just fine for us. Thank you so much for your help!
