Well this was my virgin bid on Priceline. I have been reading this forum a lot lately and I think it's awesome. There's a lot of good advice and information.

I am from the Vancouver area but my boyfriend is visiting from out of town and I wanted a place to stay to celebrate my birthday.

I started off with choosing just the Vancouver zone and 4* and made a bid of $58. Rejected. I re-bid but didn't change zones or dates and I re-bid at $65. Rejected again.

I started getting worried that I wasn't going to get a room. I noticed that others were getting in the early $60s range for similar dates. So I started reading the thread about picking a zone which doesn't have the class you're looking for. I added Vancouver YVR (Richmond) as a zone but didn't plan on lowering my price. I noticed that the hotels listed for Priceline in the list all are 3* and below. Unless a new hotel or if they upgraded to 4* would I get one in Richmond. So I rebid at $60 and hoped for the best (and had Hotwire at $70 as a backup if rejected). LOL.

So my bid for $60 was acceped at 4* hotel Westin Bayshore which is the hotel I wanted.

Thanks betterbidding.com! And I used the savingsbarn.com link too.

I'll definitely be back to bid for more hotels. I travel a lot but tend to use Expedia. I'm glad I used Priceline b/c Expedia is charging about $130US/nite for the Westin!

Congratulations on your win!

Glad the board was helpful in your securing a great deal... and than you received the hotel you were hoping for.

Your second bid, $65, was probably rejected as a duplicate bid if you didn't change the dates or anything else. It's also advisable to not use the hotel lists to determine your re-bid zones, the correct method is described in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time.

If you need help with determining your re-bid zones feel free to ask for help.

Thank you very much for using the SavingsBarn.com links to begin your bids.

Enjoy your stay and have a Happy Birthday.
