ladybugsea Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 Let me just start by saying that I love the BiddingHelper.com and Hotwire Easy View! I am trying to find a 4-4.5* Midtown Central for 4/19-4/21 (2 nights). Right now I have Hilton Times Square two-queen deluxe room reserved with cancellation for $129 for the first night ONLY (great deal!), but thinking I would rather not sleep in TS, and prefer to stay 2 nights (second night is triple the price). We are a family of 3, so Priceline is not an option. 4* MTC $156 plus resort fee $27.71, 85%, 4.5 TA, (Park Central?) Fitness center, Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom 4.5* MTC $200 95%, 4.5 TA, ‘last person got Warwick’ (Warwick?) Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower 1. I noticed one particular hotel website said kids sleep free if using existing beds; are there hotels that would charge me extra for an extra bed, if we were given a one-bed room? I assumed that with Hotwire I was safe from an extra charge, as long as I am booking under 3 people. And if I searched for 4 people, would that definitely give me a room with 2 beds? 2. Is it my imagination, or are the prices going up because I keep searching on them? I have seen both of these options this week at significantly lower prices and watched them increase while I was refreshing. I like the idea of the Warwick, but would like to keep the price under $150 if possible. Park Central sounds good too, but the resort fee inflates the price. 3. Since this is only a week away, are the prices more likely to go up than down? Also my second night is bringing the prices up. I am open to other neighborhoods as well if necessary.
thereuare Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 Let me just start by saying that I love the BiddingHelper.com and Hotwire Easy View! Thanks for the compliment... we're glad to hear you enjoy it and find it helpful. ...for $129 for the first night ONLY (great deal!)... (second night is triple the price). In NYC (and many other hotel markets) Sunday nite is the slowest nite of the week... tourists have already gone home and the business travelers have not yet arrived, this is why you're seeing such low rate for Sunday nite and the price jumps on Monday. If you look at HOTWIRE for this solo nite you'll see plenty of hotels within this price range (including what i believe to be the Warwick for $125/nite) We are a family of 3...To confirm, are you 2adults/1child or 3adults/0children? 1. Not exactly sure of the question above so i'll try to reply with some general information which will hopefully answer your question... HOTWIRE guarantees accommodations for everyone you include in your search. While this often/usually means two beds in the room, the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway brought into the room, etc (the latter options more likely in locations such as NYC where there are a high percentage of rooms with only one bed and rooms with two beds are often considered an upgrade from standard) If you include three people on your HOTWIRE search this will include any upgraded rooms and/or extra occupancy charges... i wouldn't expect any issues, if you run into any problems in this regard contact HOTWIRE. Searching for 4 does not necessarily increase your chances of two 'actual' beds since a pullout sofabed can usually accommodate two people (in addition to the two people in the 'regular' bed) There is no way to know if prices will come down, or move even higher, in the next week... but if you're seeing changes in price it is not correlated to the number of searches you're doing. Hotel prices are a function of supply/demand and if the hotel receives more new reservations/fewer cancellations than expected then prices rise.. if they receive fewer new reservations/more cancellations then prices may drop. However, this close to check-in hotels have a very good idea of their occupancy levels (they have lots of historical data that they use to predict future demand for any given dates) I think your first decision is to decide if you want to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID (in order to stay the first nite at the Warwick??) OR if you prefer some other hotel where you won't need to move mid-trip. Also, let us know the number of adults/children and we will have a close look at your options for this stay. ladybugsea Posted April 10, 2015 Author Report Posted April 10, 2015 Thanks for your response. 2 adults and 1 child. A rollaway is not a problem, just would prefer 2 actual beds.
thereuare Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 There is a 3.5* in Times Square that i will mention (Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower) as it is available for both of your nites for just $136/nite.. best guess would be the Belvedere Hotel. Best guess for the 4.5* MTC in your original post would be the Warwick... the 4* may be the Park Central, but given this is over your budget when including the resort fee, and if you did want to go over your budget the guessed Warwick is not much more than this one (after including the resort fee), this it is probably not a realistic option. If you wanted to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID you could do The Warwick for $125/nite... then for the following nite the Belvedere for $153/nite ($138/nite average) or the Affinia Manhattan for $175/nite ($150/nite average) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. ladybugsea Posted April 12, 2015 Author Report Posted April 12, 2015 My plan is to keep watching for the next few days, will be sure to use the HOTWIRE link and update what I end up doing. Prefer not to split the stay. The offers have changed. Today MTC 4.5 $214 with same amenities as yesterday says 'The last person got the Viceroy New York.' Is that meaningless?
yellowdog Posted April 12, 2015 Report Posted April 12, 2015 'The last person got the Viceroy New York.' Is that meaningless? The "last person got ..." message shown by HOTWIRE is in reference to the last person who won a hotel in that zone at that star rating... it doesn't apply to the amenity set of the current offer nor does it say anything about the current hotel offered. Let us know how we can help you further with your stay. Thanx for using boards HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links Yellowdog.
ladybugsea Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 What is the best guest for this one? Algonquin?4.5* Times Square $152Free Internet, Internet access (that is all that is listed in Easy View and also in the trip summary)
yellowdog Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 I'm sorry to say that a 4.5 * property with this amenity combo has not yet been reported/ID'd to the board. A guess would be Hyatt but I'm not certain. But in any case is this a top rated 4.5* property so I don't think you could go wrong with this property when it comes to quality. And you know the zone from the HOT.WIRE map Keep us updated on your progress and let us know what you ultimately decide or if we can be of further help. ladybugsea Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 Thanks, yellow dog. Just found another thread where someone got the Hyatt TS with those same amenities: Priceline Express NYC hotel
AaronJB Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 There is an ask for confirmation in that Hyatt thread. Additionally, with free internet and internet as the only amenities, there is always the risk that it could be something else given the lack of detail and how common those amenities are. New hotels and changes are reported to the board all the time. Are you looking for something in particular in terms of hotel? ladybugsea Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 Prefer not to be directly in Times Square, and prefer a more elegant vibe vs ultra contemporary. Best guess on these? Glad to see all these new options today! 4* MTC $199 90% recommended, 4.5/5 on TAFree Internet, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet accessThought maybe Sofitel but their rates are very high those nights, $750. 4* MTC $153 75%, 4/5 on TAPet friendly, Boutique hotel, Fitness center, Business center, Internet accessMansfield? site rate 197
thereuare Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 I'm not seeing the first property so hard for me to guess, but perhaps the Park Central hotel? For the second property the Mansfield is a possibility, but i'd also add the Sheraton New York as a possibility as well. ... but i think the likely Hyatt Times Square, which can be had on PRICELINE EXPRESS for $151/nite, would be a better choice based upon the reviews, price, and value... you could easily avoid Times Square if you wanted to by walking east towards Sixth Ave. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. ladybugsea Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 Sorry, the $199 is 5* (not 4*). Yes, the TS option is the best deal, and I wonder if we are more likely to get 2 beds here.

With the small rooms in NYC, two beds - when available - often go for a premium. While you can call/write the hotel, there's a high risk they'll say no. ladybugsea Posted April 15, 2015 Author Report Posted April 15, 2015 Yes as stated earlier in the thread (sorry it is getting long!), 2 adults and 1 child.
thereuare Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 When searching for 2adults/1child the only 5* hotel in the MTC zone i currently see is $291/nite and has different amenities than those above. ladybugsea Posted April 16, 2015 Author Report Posted April 16, 2015 Received Hyatt Times Square 4.5* TS $144 100% recommended (no TA rating shown) Free Internet, Internet access (no other amenities shown) Decided I had spent enough time searching and this was the best deal so far so I went for it - got the Hyatt Times Square. Thank you for all your help, glad I was able to add a new amenity set to the list. My daughter is going to love being so close to Times Square. :) Booked through the board HOTWIRE link.
ladybugsea Posted April 16, 2015 Author Report Posted April 16, 2015 And one more thing. I called the hotel to add a request for 2 beds. Of course we were booked with a king, and the agent told me that we would be charged $35 for a rollaway bed. What do I need to do to not get charged for that if we end up with the king? I most definitely booked for 3 people and the room does not have a sofa bed.
yellowdog Posted April 16, 2015 Report Posted April 16, 2015 Congratulations on your success! Thanks for using the HOTWIRE links on the board. Also thanx for reporting this new amenity combo to the BetterBidding Hotwire Hotel List We hope you're satisfied with the outcome and will like the Hyatt. And one more thing. I called the hotel to add a request for 2 beds. Of course we were booked with a king, and the agent told me that we would be charged $35 for a rollaway bed. What do I need to do to not get charged for that if we end up with the king? I most definitely booked for 3 people and the room does not have a sofa bed.I'm sorry to see this. I don't think that the agent you talked with know/understand the HOTWIRE terms. HOTWIRE guarantees sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search. So if you have booked for 3 guests should the hotel supply you with sufficient bedding arrangement. That could mean two beds or one bed + a rollway etc. I would call the hotel again and tell them that you have booked for 3 guests and that you want a confirmation for this (free of charge). If they don't budge, call HOTWIRE and let then know about this and they will contact the hotel. HOTWIRE is very good to deal with when it comes to issues like this. Good luck and keep us updated. Enjoy your stay. Yellowdog.
thereuare Posted April 16, 2015 Report Posted April 16, 2015 I would call the hotel sooner rather than later (or skip this step and just call HOTWIRE to resolve since it's close to your arrival date and you want to get this taken care of before your arrival) Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Have a great trip! Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
ladybugsea Posted April 18, 2015 Author Report Posted April 18, 2015 Thanks for your suggestions. I called Hotwire and they called the hotel directly on my behalf and confirmed that we were given one king bed, and that a rollaway would be an additional $35 or an upgrade to 2 beds would be an additional $25. This surprised me, as I thought I was safe from additional charges booking for 3 people through Hotwire. Hotwire was very helpful, and offered me two solutions. 1. Rebook for the same star rating and they would pay the difference. 2. Pay for the upgrade at the hotel myself, then fax them the final receipt for compensation after the research team investigates; additionally they would put $25 Hotwire dollars in my account. Since time is running short and I don't want to go through the same issue again with a different hotel, I opted for option #2. I called the hotel again, and they did have my request for 2 beds that I made the other day, but there is no guarantee. I will update what happens later.
thereuare Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 ... I was safe from additional charges booking for 3 people through Hotwire. You are, which is why HOTWIRE agreed to reimburse you for the additional fee (or cancel the reservation if you chose that was your preferred option). This hotel either didn't know how or made a mistake in entering their rates into the system, and as they don't appear to want to budge, HOTWIRE is honoring the rate by agreeing to pay you the additional fee you will charged. ladybugsea Posted May 18, 2015 Author Report Posted May 18, 2015 After several phone calls and waiting for almost 4 weeks, Hotwire came through and refunded me the upgrade charge, including taxes.
