narual Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 Booked a mystery hotel yesterday through Hotwire for April 17-19 at $153 per night (total 380.67 after taxes and fees). After completing, found it was the Allegro Chicago, a Kimpton hotel -- looks like a very nice boutique. So I immediately went onto their website to check it out... and discovered that I could book through the hotel's website for $119/night (277.02 after taxes and fees). I found this site while googling about using the low price guarantee. I filed for it, sent them the link. They said they couldn't find it. They asked for screenshots. I sent screenshots, but stupid me, I forgot to change it from 1 person to 2 while taking screenshots. 1 vs 2 guests is hardly going to change the price of a king sized bed hotel room, I'd think, but they rejected it specifically based on number of guests. I tried calling and the guy I spoke to on the phone, assuming I understood his mangled english correctly, said that I could only get a lower price guarantee if hotwire themselves offered a lower price, which is exactly not what their website says. So, I went back, took *another* screenshot with 2 adults this time, and sent it back to the email. Searching, I mostly saw people getting success with the guarantee, but the numbers they were posting were $10 or $20 differences. This is over $100 difference. Has anyone had a similar experience? Were they willing to honor their promise, or did you have to dispute it with your credit card company? Thanks!

AaronJB Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 I'll throw in a note that you will find that some common (Starbucks, etc) things may be closed on Saturday/Sunday in the blocks directly around the hotel. The Chicago French Market (which is actually tucked under the trains at the nearby Ogilvie Transit Center, http://www.frenchmarketchicago.com/hours/) is a great option nearby on Friday/Saturday, but not Sunday. Easy walk West of your hotel. Enjoy your stay.
narual Posted April 6, 2015 Author Report Posted April 6, 2015 Thanks. Sorry, I tried reading the "read before posting" link, but it didn't give me anything but a list of people's posts. Is this what you meant by the amenities? Hotel AmenitiesPet friendlyBoutique hotelFitness centerRestaurant(s)Business centerInternet accessSpa services It's listed as 4 stars at the top of the page if that's what you meant. And Aaron, thanks -- we're going for Book of Mormon on Friday night, then probably visiting the Adler on Saturday, and maybe the Lincoln Park zoo and conservatory. I'll look into the french market - sounds interesting :)
AaronJB Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 Thank you for the follow-up! :) Do you also see any accessible amenities? I do offer a lot of suggestions in this thread, although some aspects of it won't apply (the farmers markets don't open until a little later in the Spring.) The West portion of the Loop that you are in is office-heavy and can get quiet at night. However, I will note that the area further West (while your hotel is in the West Loop, this would be "West of Loop") is starting to become a bigger and bigger restaurant scene, with Graham Elliott Bistro, Girl and the Goat, Next (the newer restaurant from legendary Alinea chef Grant Achatz) and many others. http://chicago.eater.com/2012/8/17/6554115/west-loop-where-to-take-visiting-friends-to-eat-drink Enjoy your stay.
