Priceline Hotel: Advice for family trip to NYC April 1-8 4 people

First time poster looking for advice on getting the best deal on a 4* for 4 (2 adults-2 kids) for a vacation to NYC. I could get a one room on Hotwire for $400 a night which is way out of my price range. Here are questions:

Should I try to get 2 rooms instead of 1 (it appears from other posts that luck with getting 2 doubles is slim)

I would prefer to pay less than $200 a night but don't know if that is possible?

Any suggestions?

I think you will need to book two rooms (unless you want to take risk it... but i woudln't, although others have), and two rooms will likely cost you more than $200/nite (total for the two rooms)... otherwise the opaque services will not likely be the best route.

As $400 is not in your budget (i don't blame you), and under $200 for two rooms is not likely going to happen (especially for a six nite stay), what is your budget?

Also, is SPLITTING YOUR BID an option?

I can be flexible on the length of our trip and can split the stay, though would prefer to be in one hotel the whole time. We can budget up to $250 for the 2 rooms I guess, but we had just not planned on needing two rooms. We have successfully bid for rooms in Washington and other places and never had a problem with getting a 2 double bed room. We didn't realize the NY market was so different. What is the price differential between 4* and 3* hotels in NYC? Should I expect to save $50 a night?

Also I would assume that I would get a lower rate on two rooms than if I got one because it is a greater volume. Is this not true?

I can get a two double room at the Holiday Inn on 57th (3* I believe) for $195 a night for that time through the Priority Club website. It is hard to be willing to pay more.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, the NYC market is different than most others as, generally speaking, the rooms are notoriously small.

Price difference between 3* and 4* in NYC is actually quite small (usually much less than $50/nite), which is why in most instances people bid (and are successful at) 4* properties before resorting to 3* bidding.

You will not get a volume discount for purchasing two rooms.

You can actually purchase one room with two double beds at the Holiday Inn on 57th St for $160/nite and if price is the primary concern than that may be your best deal. If you do go this route, please use our Holiday Inn link for your purchase (also found in the Travel Links to Support BetterBidding link on the top right of the board).
