tonyle Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 We found on both Hotwire and Priceline express that there is a 5 star hotel in the Dong Khoi region. Hotwire is 64 usd. Priceline is 73. We plan to stay from 6/21 to 6/24. Are they both the same hotel? And Can you help me narrow down the hotels? Thank you in advance. :D

tonyle Posted April 3, 2015 Author Report Posted April 3, 2015 Yes sir but i'm pretty sure this is the hotel that has the inventory, so we want to narrow down the hotels so we know what hotels we are bidding for.
yellowdog Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Yes sir but i'm pretty sure this is the hotel that has the inventory, so we want to narrow down the hotels so we know what hotels we are bidding for. This is far from a guarantee. We see new hotels all the time for the PRICELINE EXPRESS deals. HOTWIRE and PRICELINE use different inventory for hotels so there is no way to guess the outcome for this. And we have very little history with Ho Chi Minh City so that makes it even harder. If you would like to get help with a bidding strategy so please post your budget/night before tax/fees. For the PRICELINE EXPRESS hotel. I can't get the same PRICELINE EXPRESS hotel to appear on my search. Can you please run a new search and confirm that you still can see this hotel on your search Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. tonyle Posted April 3, 2015 Author Report Posted April 3, 2015 Thank you for your response yellowdog, I looked up the Priceline express using your link hotel and I found the same hotel but the price went back up to $73. Our budget per night would be around the $50-$75 range, but anything lower would be nice. I looked up Ho Chi Minh city on your forums and I saw that someone else won the Pullman SAIGON CENTRE but for a different date. He got it for $55. Could the hotels we are currently looking at be that hotel or is it another one? Thank you so much for your advice. I'm a first time hotwire and priceline user, so I just need some guidance.
tonyle Posted April 3, 2015 Author Report Posted April 3, 2015 I used your HOTWIRE link and looked up the other guy who used hotwire to get the Pullman for $55. I looked up his search on hotwire and found a 5 star hotel for 64, which I presume is Pullman, but when I looked up my search for 6/21 to 6/24, the exact same search came up with the 5 star hotel for 64, which I think is Pullman and the exact same 4 1/2 star hotel for 79. Can you please verify this for me? His search was for 5/3 to 5/6.
Romelle Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 I'm a member, not a board official, but when bidding I've several times gotten hotels not yet reported. If I look at the Standard Rate hotels on Hotwire, I see five 5* hotels with very similar amenity lists in Ho Chi Minh City. On Priceline on the "List View", or regular retail, I see 15. And there can be hotels available via PL bidding that are not available via retail Priceline, Priceline Express or Hotwire. All you can really count on with Priceline bidding is that you will receive a hotel within the map boundaries at the star level you are bidding (or higher, but of course that doesn't apply when bidding 5*). Sometimes when bidding there is a short list of amenities all the hotels in that category will have. With Hotwire and Priceline Express, the pros here can offer an educated guess as to what you might get, but it in never 100%. For common US travel cities with lots of reporting, the odds are very good. With a single report in a very large foreign city, the odds are less good. If you bid and get a different hotel than other bidders have received, think of it as fun to get to be the very first to add a new one to the lists. Bidding via Priceline can be the least expensive, but can have the most surprises. Hotwire Secret Rate and Priceline Express can be a little more expensive but it is possible to make the educated guesses. The only absolute sure way is the direct retail purchase and that is usually the most expensive. Romelle
tonyle Posted April 3, 2015 Author Report Posted April 3, 2015 Romelle, can you please name the five hotels that have similar amentities in district 1?
thereuare Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 ...so we want to narrow down the hotels so we know what hotels we are bidding for.The bidding side of PRICELINE, PRICELINE EXPRESS, and the 'retail' side, all use a different universe of hotels. As there is little correlation between what is currently offered thru PRICELINE EXPRESS and you will receive then bidding on PRICELINE (especially in non-US locations... and given that HOTWIRE and PRICELINE may have different star ratings for the same hotel) it's not worth the 15-20 minutes it would take to properly research the PRICELINE EXPRESS offers if you're intention is only to try to bid on PRICELINE for a lower price anyway. Our budget per night would be around the $50-$75 range...If you would like help with a bidding strategy let us know which star rating you'd like to try for first and your maximum bid (an actual bid amount we should use, not a range) at that star level, we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. I hadn't used your dates before. When I did, a 6th turned up. All from Hotwire "Standard Rate Hotels". Some might be further out than you want. The areas/zones/districts are rarely the same between the different venues. Romelle
tonyle Posted April 3, 2015 Author Report Posted April 3, 2015 I am looking to bid for a 5star Dong Khoi area hotel. I am willing to start at $50. It probably wont go through but you have to try the lower numbers first.

thereuare Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 When bidding 5* in District 1 you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. (NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc) Select 5* District 1... Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone2... Bid $53, if rejected add re-bid zone3... Bid $55, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 5* District 1 and re-bid zone4... Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone1... Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone2... Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone3... Bid $65 I lowered your maximum bid to $65 since if that is rejected, this 5 State hotel in District 1 (confirm your dates on the landing page) is offered for $68/nite. Any questions feel free to ask. dodo13 Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 Just reported a hotel win for Pullman Saigon @ $76 per night per room. A mere $20 more than for my previous stay for three nights (@$55), but as Accor runs a 3=2 promotion this period that could be an explanation. Further the amenities differed from the first to the second booking. Hope this helps.
tonyle Posted April 11, 2015 Author Report Posted April 11, 2015 Bids were rejected to $60 and decided to book Tan Son Nhat Saigon Hotel instead of bidding . Hotel was $60.
