matryx Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 I'm looking for a 4* to 4.5* hotel for under $100 if possible around the downtown Chicago area. It will be my first time here and I would like to do some shopping and go to the attractions and probably head to Chinatown. The trip is for the Easter long weekend so I'm not sure if I should book now or wait until it's closer to the date. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
AaronJB Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)This is still "on the border" between the slow season and Spring enough that I don't think you need to come near $100 for something nice. On Hot.wire, I'm seeing a 4.5* in the Downtown-Millennium Park-Grant Park area for $79 (you may see a slightly different price) w/Boutique, Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Tennis, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower. -- This would be a possible match for the very nice and very centrally located Swissotel. I'm seeing a 4* in the River North-NMA area for $69 (again, you may see a slightly different price) w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Spa. -- The Godfrey has been seen with this amenity set. 4.5* Mag Mile N-WT for $93 w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower-- Likely Sofitel And there's a lot of other options under $100, but the above are some highlights. I do think you could get something for cheaper via bidding, but with Hot.wire's selection under $100, there's a lot of appeal to be able to potentially get something nicer vs the luck of the draw with bidding. Let me know if you have any questions before booking. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.
matryx Posted March 16, 2015 Author Report Posted March 16, 2015 I did check Hotwire and did see a 4.5* hotel for $79. The Swissotel was on my list of hotels I wanted to stay at also but I wasn't sure if I'll get that and don't have much experience with Hotwire or Priceline. The Sofitel is closer to all the shopping though it seem so I might try that instead using Priceline for a cheaper price if possible Thanks for the highlights and I think I'll probably use Hotwire like you suggested to potentially get something nicer.

AaronJB Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 Normally, I'd say just go for the Swiss, as it's really not that far at all from Michigan Ave - you can see the Michigan Ave. bridge from the front door of the Swiss. However, for about $15 more (it may vary slightly) the Sofitel is both an exceptional hotel and right in the middle of the Michigan Ave. area. If you are looking to shop, there are some cool boutiques/thrifts in Lincoln Park. Luxury Garage Sale (http://www.yelp.com/biz/luxury-garage-sale-chicago) is not far from the Zoo and a reasonably easy trip from Michigan Ave. Thank you for keeping us updated on what you decide. matryx Posted March 16, 2015 Author Report Posted March 16, 2015 Just an update I got the 4.5* Sofitel Chicago Water Tower hotel using the BB HOTWIRE link for $90. It's for two nights and after taxes and fees it came out to $216.52 with the $10 off $100 deal that's on Hotwire currently. Thanks for the help AaronJB.
AaronJB Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 Congrats on your success. :)Awesome deal for this property and glad you are pleased with the win! Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay.
matryx Posted March 16, 2015 Author Report Posted March 16, 2015 Just had another question. Should I be calling the hotel for a late check-in. We're be leaving Michigan on Saturday at around 8pm and probably won't get there until 12am Sunday.
AaronJB Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 If you are coming in after midnight, I think it's best to be on the safe side and call ahead to let them know. Enjoy your stay.
matryx Posted March 22, 2015 Author Report Posted March 22, 2015 I'm looking to extend my stay for another night but after reading the terms I think it might be better if I just try another booking on Hotwire or Priceline to do this. Any advice on this?
AaronJB Posted March 22, 2015 Report Posted March 22, 2015 I'd look at using Hot.wire's "Extend Your Stay" feature: http://www.hotwire.com/helpcenter/hotels/after-booking/reservation-changes-cancellations/can-i-add-nights.jsp If using this feature, are you offered the option of another night at the same price?
