mozart2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Hi!I want to go to NYC from April 6th to April 13th. I'd like to stay in a 4* or 5* hotel in midtown or near central park. My maximum budget is $180 per night!Do I have a chance if I try it now at priceline or is it better short before I go there?Does anyone know how to maximize the chance to get into the waldorf astoria or the "drake"?How are the prices in april in general?
thereuare Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Welcome to BetterBidding!Does anyone know how to maximize the chance to get into the waldorf astoria or the "drake"?I'd suggest giving this thread a read first: DON'T BID HIGHER FOR A SPECIFIC HOTELLet us know if you are willing/able to accept any 4* hotel in the zones that you bid and we'll suggest a strategy to try. Note that the Waldorf and The Drake are not the most frequently won hotels in their respective zones, so i wouldn't bid on Priceline if those are the only hotels that you'd be happy with or if you are expecting either of those properties. If you want to try to target these properties, you could do a Hotwire search for your dates and see if the star ratings and amenities associated with the Drake or the Waldorf appear. mozart2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Report Posted January 3, 2006 Thanx for your quick response! No, I also would accept any other 4* hotel in this zone! I just wanted to know if there are any strategies how to target a specific hotel, but your link was a very good answer!I tried Hotwire for my date but the prices for a 4* hotel were far over $200. I guess it's too early to bid for a hotel in April!
thereuare Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 What is your maximum bid... we wouldn't want to suggest a strategy that went higher than you want to bid. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thereuare Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Sorry about that, i see you had previously stated so above (it was pre-coffee this morning :) )In NYC you have two re-bids available at the 4* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding.Select 4* MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Start with the above and if rejected, try again in 72 hours, increasing each bid by $10.If unsuccessful up to your limit, you may want to consider SPLITTING YORU PRICELINE BID as a few hotels are sold-out for some of your dates above.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
