Looking into 5/10-14 for some work around DC.

Interested in 3-4* ideally around $125-175.

This 3* today comes out to $152 in the Convention Center-Arts Dist.

70% recommended.

Amenities:

Free Internet, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Golf nearby, Tennis nearby, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower

As per Hotwire note, "The last person got the Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol."

1) Could this be true, as this hotel appears to be in NoMa area?

2) This hotel offers free breakfast as well with each stay, can it be that sometimes these free amenities are not reported because it could very well be another option?

Thank you as always for any input.

And a quick follow-up I've been meaning to ask for some time:

From your experience, is it true that it is better to book Tue-Wed as opposed to late in the week, weekends, with more options and better deals becoming available early/mid-week?

Thanks once more.

Per Hotwire, the last successful bid yields the State Plaza Hotel.

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. Once you win a hotel, use the 'ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN' button on the lower right corner of the page to edit the topic title to reflect your win and to provide the details of your purchase. This helps keep the board better organized by reducing the number of unresolved threads that don't have any follow-up or conclusion.

I have found deals every day of the week, the {insert day here as i've heard them all} is the best day to book may have had some validity 10+ years ago, but as computers (and algorithms) have become more sophisticated i don't see any pattern in terms of the best day of the week to book (airfare or hotels)

As far as HOTWIRE's "The last person got ___" information, that is relative to the last purchase in the zone at this star rating, NOT necessarily the underlying hotel currently being offered.

For the 3* Convention Center property i'm not sure which one this may be, but the Courtyard US Capitol and the Kellogg Conference Hotel at Gallaudet University both seem like likely candidates.... for the 3.5* The State Plaza Hotel has previously been seen with this amenity set so that would be my best guess for this one.

Where is it that you want to be near? (and i'll again recommend our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com is location is the primary objective of any trip)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know what you decide and how it goes if you take either of the offers above.

Thank you for consolidating items and excellent feedback.

Location ideally would be w/i walking distance (we consider this several blocks, a mile, mile and a half, and anything beyond that we'd utilize metro links) b/t Pennsylvania and Constitution, several fed. services, Smithsonian/FTC.

The problem in this instance with maps and hotels.com would be that the prices all over the vicinity are... respectfully obscene. I understand it is DC, however some consolation exists in some HW Hot Rates and PRICELINE EXPRESS samples of $125-175 (our range) for 3 or even 3.5* as per prior thread.

The key Q in my mind becomes:

Do we wait until the last 2-3 weeks, last week, or look to book earlier?

We are just under the 60 days' mark, so ample time to monitor.

Is there a good rule of thumb according to your experience? I gather no "sweet spots" one can decipher in certain short timeframe windows, that 30-60 day out timing for us is intriguing, but we're willing to wait if you advise that prices might rise a bit and then toward the last couple of weeks new inventory would become available at much lower rates...

Judging by this week, prices actually fell dramatically from earlier in the week through this weekend, which I did not expect. Dynamic/variable pricing, random variables, new bookings, etc, or something else to add...?

Thank you once more for the thoughtful insight and outstanding service!

Unfortunately, there is no way to know if rates will come down closer to your stay. After 2008, there were a lot more "last minute" deals, but as demand has ramped up, there has been less in the way of declines towards the date/s of travel, especially if it's a busy period (nice weather, convention or other event.) Waiting for cheaper rates is a bet and sometimes it works, but in recent years it's seemed to work less and less often. If you see what looks like a good deal (in general and for the season), you have to be willing to jump on it or risk the possibility that it may not be there for long and the deal that replaces it may not be as compelling.

Looking at the DC convention calendar, there does look to be at least a couple of conferences, but the website doesn't list # of attendees, so I can't get a better sense of how large/small they are. In May, weather is certainly going to be nicer, so you will certainly have tourist traffic versus a month like January.

You can use our free service, RateDrop.com in order to get updates on price declines for PRICELINE EXPRESS, HOTWIRE and regular rate listings. Pricing for the discount services is quite dynamic and can change suddenly in either direction.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.
