Priceline Hotel: Need help with my San Fran trip

Good Evening,

 

I'm looking some help with my San Fran trip in August. I'm planning on checking in Aug 15 and checking out Aug 17th. Can anyone make reccomendations on which zome to stay in? I'd like to be in a fun area that can be traveled a lot by foot.

 

The rest of the trip consists of renting a car on the 17th and making our way down to San Diego via PCH. We fly home out of SD on the 22nd.

 

So I guess I'm looking for which zome to stay in advice and what price to start at. Also, does anyone have any tips on renting a car? Looking for a convertable for the ride down PCH, but I dont see the need to have it for the entire trip.

We usually aim for 3 or 4 star hotels in good zones of a city. I'm hoping to achieve that for 150$ Give or take.

At the 4* level Union Square East and Union Square West are the most frequently bid zones. At less than 4* some tend to avoid the USW zone as it contains the 'tenderloin' area which tends to have a high homeless population that begs for spare change and at less than 4* the odds of landing in this part of the zone increases... but others still do bid this zone at less than 4* as the homelessness doesn't effect their stay (i think this has to do with where you come from... those who live in urban areas are likely more used to seeing homelessness and being asked for spare change, whereas somebody in a more rural area and not used to seeing homeless on the streets would feel more apprehensive in that type of environment).

The Financial District is still somewhat well located and is often used as a cheaper alternative to USE/USW, and Fisherman's Wharf is in a different area and a lot more touristy.

With the above noted, i think you have a chance at a 4* hotel in the USE and/or USW zone up to your $150 limit, but it may take a little more, perhaps somewhere in the $150-$170 area. At the moment i don't see much (if any) savings by going for a 3*/3.5* property.
