AaronJB Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 What would be your desired budget per night for this stay? Unfortunately - at least at this point - rates are high. I'm guessing a win in Union Square E/W will likely take at least around the $175-195 mark, but you have time to try up to those levels. fellipelmg Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 I think for better price, its cheaper next to the trip. Someones catch $110 for the same location for next month.
thereuare Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 I think for better price, its cheaper next to the trip. Someones catch $110 for the same location for next month. You're making an assumption that your dates are expensive now but will get cheaper one month before your stay because you see other people winning at low rates one month before their own trips. However, this does not take into account seasonality and other factors which may play a significant role. Generally speaking October is considered high season in San Francisco, where as April (next month) is still considered to be low season... so it's completely logical that rates for next month (low season) will cost less than rates for October (high season), regardless of how far in advance the purchase is made. Perhaps an easier example to follow... The Superbowl is a major sporting event that not only brings football fans from all over the country to the venue sponsoring the event (it changes every year), but also huge numbers of news crews and media (all of who need a place to stay while in town... and hotel rates spike). So let's say you wanted a hotel at the location of the SuperBowl next year (11 months from now) and rates are $300/nite, yet rates at the same location for next week (or next month) are only $85/nite. You can't assume that rates are high for your dates 11 months from now because the stay is far away, and to expect to see $85/nite rates one week (or one month) before your trip... rates are high 11 months from now because of the major event taking place and hotels are expecting high demand, and therefore increase their rates accordingly. Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your trip (it all depends upon how actual new reservations/canellations come in relative to expected new reservations/cancellations)... but you can't make the assumption that rates will be cheaper once month before your stay because you see good deals for trips taking place one month from now. fellipelmg Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 Thanks thanks thanks. I Simply in love with this forum. The answers Is too fast. I didn't now that October it's a high month to travel to San Francisco. Like the example of super bowl really, that should high the prices, but I think if this tool helps hotel make full reservations (observing that the hostel have to be beneficial with this program) I think... If I had a hotel I will be more secure to give discount next to the date.
thereuare Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 There are a LOT of factors that go into hotel pricing (more than can be discussed/covered here), and while everything always comes down to supply/demand, there are some revenue management strategies that are specific to the hotel industry. For instance, in many industries you want to sell your inventory as quick as possible, but in the hotel business you don't want to be the first hotel to be fully booked... since once the other hotels are sold-out you can substantially raise your own prices. It may work out that rates do indeed drop closer to your travel dates, but you're making the assumption that hotels will be less busy than their business models currently predict, and that there will be excess inventory available and offered to the opaque suppliers. If you do choose to wait it out, i would recommend booking a back-up reservation using RefundableRates.com and then, as mentioned above, signing up for alerts from RateDrop.
