scd7131 Posted March 6, 2015 Report Posted March 6, 2015 Yesterday I succeeded on a $215 bid to secure the Waldorf Hilton in the Mayfair-Soho Priceline zone of London.I began specifically angling to get the Saint Pancras in the Bloomsbury-Marble Arch zone, it looks like an amazing building. The other 5* in that zone also looks extremely nice. I opened at $195, seeing that others had secured the Saint Pancras in late 2014 at $215. I probably should have started higher, since I felt either of the two choices in that zone would be great, but balanced versus location I felt that was my upper end price. So when that bid was rejected, I added another more central area I would prefer to stay in location-wise (Westminster-Houses of Parliament-Victoria). This was my top preferred area to stay in. I bid at $205 and the bid was rejected.I did realize throughout this that these were very low bids for a London 5* as most float in the $350 to $500 per night range. So I went ahead and added my last preferred area, the very central Mayfair-Soho. I upped my bid to $215 and was pleased when I secured the Waldorf Hilton. Had I booked the same hotel on Priceline's list rates, I would have paid $252. Had I booked directly with the hotel on an advance purchase, I would have paid $301. All in all a decent outcome, not spectacular but worth the time spent sorting through the process.
