Hi all

Wondering what the group opinion is on when you're better off bidding for NYC. I'm looking to book 3 rooms in NYC Aug. 1-8, 2015.

Should I be trying to get my deals now? Or am I better off waiting until closer to the dates of travel?

Thanks in advance.

Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your trip; it all depends upon supply/demand (ie- how actual new reservations/cancellations come in relative to expected new reservations/cancellations). For more on this subject see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Arrival' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

Historically this is a slow time of year in NYC so i wouldn't be in too much of a rush to book, but it does pay to search now and be ready to act if a good deal comes along... a hotel may currently have very few bookings and release some deeply discounted inventory to PRICELINE / HOTWIRE in order to get some confirmed rooms on the books. As you get closer the same or similar deals may not be available (should the hotel be 'comfortable' with the occupancy levels they have)

I would suggest signing up for alerts at our newest server RateDrop so that you'll be alerted any time there is a drop in price for the star rating/zone combinations that you're looking for... as well you can book a refundable reservations at BackUpBooking.com which will give you the ability to lock in a price now and then continue to cancel/rebook if/when better deals become available (while protecting yourself from price increases along the way)

(NOTE: RateDrop and BackUpBooking.com work very well hand-in-hand in this way)

I'm local to the area so let us know what you find and if you need thoughts on which hotel(s) may be better than others at current prices.

The best hotel we can get for this price range (ie. If we can score a 4* hotel for $200/night, awesome. If it has to be lower, so be it but I'm not going lower than a 3*).

Areas are Chelsea, Midtown East, East Village, West Village, Flatiron, UWS, UES and Empire State.

These are not the name of PRICELINE zones that you can bid on. Using our BiddingHelper.com please do a search for 'New York City, NY' and on the page that loads by default you will see the names of the NYC bidding zones.

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. Once you win a hotel use the 'ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN' button on the bottom right of this page to edit the topic title to reflect your win and to provide the details of your purchase.

This 2.5* property has not yet been reported to the board, but the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel would be my best guess for this one.

We'd love to keep it in the $200 a night range for 3*-4*

The best hotel we can get for this price range (ie. If we can score a 4* hotel for $200/night, awesome.

Have your goals for this trip changed, as this 2.5* is below the minimum star rating you originally stated you were seeking for this stay... and there are 4* hotels available for less than $200/nite.

Goals for the trip have changed as the financial situations of our fellow travellers have changed. Been looking in the $150 range/per night now to fit their budget a little easier. Frankly I'm torn as to what to do. Do we wait it out since we have 6 months and hope for a great deal during restaurant week in August? Or do we lock in a property at a lower level than we'd like at a price that can be stomached?

Remember the days when you just called a hotel and booked it? They were good and bad at the same time.......

You could see if anything acceptable is available thru RefundableRates.com, then set alert(s) at RateDrop to be notified should anything better fall within your buy range.

Summer is historically a slower time of year in NYC, but with the economy and hotel market getting stronger, the summertime discounts have not been as deep as they have been in previous years (but are still good deals nonetheless has regular rates have gone up as well)
